UK – Wincanton, a major logistics and supply chain management provider in the UK, has increased its ability to handle the company’s growing presence in the foodservice sector by committing £3 million to the development of an 110,000 square foot handling and distribution hub in Manchester.

The new distribution centre, located at Trafford Park, increases Wincanton’s foodservice capabilities by over 125% and provides space for nearly 6,500 pallets of product. The company says that the investment indicates the firmness of intent they have to establish themselves more solidly in the foodservice sector, as they have already in a number of other freight and logistic areas.

Speaking of Wincanton’s investment and plans for the future David Jones, Managing Director - Foodservice, commented: “We now have significantly more capacity in our network, enabling both Wincanton’s growth ambitions and those of our existing customers.

“We are investing significantly in our foodservice business and have aggressive plans for growth; this site is just the beginning of a business transformation programme that is designed to elevate Wincanton into the supply chain partner of choice for the foodservice industry”.

Wincanton currently employs 30,000 people across Europe and produces a turnover of over £2.36bn / €2.85bn per annum.
