US – For the sixth consecutive year Volvo Trucks will once again be giving recognition to North America’s safest commercial vehicle fleets with the Volvo Trucks Safety Award. The top two fleets with the safest driving records and top safety programmes will receive the annual award and $25,000 to be used toward their safety-related activities. Volvo of course have built an image based on safety where their cars are concerned and are aiming at the same brand recognition in the US for the company’s HGV’s which pull freight for road haulage operators worldwide.

The Volvo Trucks Safety Award is open to all US and Canadian fleets operating at least five Class 8 units. Fleets must have at least one Volvo tractor in operation to be eligible for the award. Entrants will be ranked by their accident frequency rates and participating fleets will also be judged on their accident prevention activities.

Fellow sponsor once again for an annual event which aims to highlight the importance of highway safety for the trucking industry and the motoring public is Michelin Americas Truck Tires which has been on board since 2010 and Mike Cain, Vice President of Original Equipment, Michelin Americas Truck Tires, comments:

“Michelin Americas Truck Tires is proud to help sponsor the Volvo Trucks Safety Award. This award embodies the commitment to safety that is shared by both Volvo Trucks and Michelin and we are thrilled to again participate in recognising the safest truck fleets in North America.”

The deadline for entry this year is July 31, 2014. The award winners will be announced during the American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition in October 2014. The two grand prizes will be awarded to the fleets with the best records in two divisions based on annual vehicle miles travelled: less than 20 million miles and more than 20 million miles.
