UK – Maritime welfare charity Sailors' Society is calling for 200 seafaring volunteers to test the pilot version of their online Wellness at Sea coaching programme. In return, the volunteers will benefit from the knowledge of Sailors' Society's widely respected Wellness at Sea training, which until now was only available for classroom based teaching, completely free of charge.

The coaching programme seeks to enable seafarers to improve their on board health and well-being by exploring five different aspects of wellness and the impact that they can have on the safe running of a ship. Sandra Welch, deputy CEO of Sailors’ Society, said:

“Long contracts and busy schedules are not always conducive to classroom-based training, so we’re very excited to be able to offer an online version of the course to provide seafarers and companies alike greater flexibility and access to this highly valuable skillset.”

The course will take between 14 and 20 hours to complete and support will be available to users throughout their learning experience. Some content has been adapted to suit online delivery, but the framework, philosophy and outcomes are the same as the classroom based coaching. Participants will also receive a course certificate on completion of all six modules. Johan Smith, Sailors’ Society’s Wellness at Sea programme manager, said:

“We want to provide the best possible product for our users, and the insights of our volunteer testers will be invaluable in shaping the final version of the online Wellness at Sea course. We are very grateful to any seafarers or companies who would like to join our group of pilot site testers.”
