UK – NEW ZEALAND – EAST AFRICA - Earlier this year in an innovative move, container sales and freight and logistics inland services provider Pentalver got together with specialist car shippers Autohub of New Zealand and the Japanese Export Vehicle Inspection Centre (JEVIC) to create a seamless ‘drop-off’, one-stop service, complete with price guarantees, to simplify the process of shipping vehicles to certain markets. The partners launched the UK’s first Vehicle Pre-Clearance Facility for New Zealand and other destinations in a bid to capitalise on the growing export market for second-hand cars.

The success of the scheme can be judged this week as the group has collected the Global Freight Award in the ‘Supply Chain Partnership’ category recognising a scheme offering an innovative reaction to changing markets and market conditions. Only launched in July the new facility pre-clears used vehicles destined for New Zealand; caters for other export markets, handling ‘Road Worthiness Inspections’ to allow exportation to some East African countries; as well as opening up other potential markets. Chris Lawrenson MD of Pentalver, an offshoot of APM Terminals, commented:

“I am delighted that our commitment to providing tailored, effective solutions for our clients has been recognised by this prestigious award. There was strong competition for the award with several high-profile companies making the shortlist and so we are extremely proud to have won.”
