UK – WORLDWIDE – WISTA International, the Women's International Shipping & Trading Association, which is dedicated to enhancing the position of women through global networking, has appointed the well-known figure of Sue Terpilowski as its new official Press Officer. The announcement came at the WISTA International AGM & Conference held in Hamburg in October.

UK based Terpilowski has over 35 years’ experience in the shipping industry and is a London based leading maritime and logistics PR consultant. She has been delegated to raise the profile of WISTA International which currently has more than 3,900 female professionals working in the maritime industry globally.

UK – James Tinkler has been appointed Site Manager of perishable goods specialist PML’s new satellite transport and logistics hub based at Lympne, Kent as recruitment continues for the soon to launch operation. Tinkler spent the last five years as International Planning Manager for a UK firm distributing imports and exports and previously 20 years in the temperature- controlled logistics sector.

Tinkler will report directly to the PML board, overseeing approximately 35 staff and taking responsibility for 24/7 operation of all road freight operations at the site, handling daily consignments of refrigerated food for packing, loading, and unloading, with a planned 80-100 truck movements per day in the first phase of its official opening.

UK – The Bis Henderson Group has appointed Adrian Fawcett as Chairman. He previously worked at Bass Brewing where he helped build and sell the business and was instrumental in the creation of Tradeteam Exel distribution. He also led the growth of Punch Taverns, successfully floating the business as a 9,300 plus outlet, FTSE 100 company.

He became CEO of BMI Healthcare and as Chairman of Silentnight Group Adrian has overseen a transformation of the company’s fortunes. He is also currently Chairman of Park Holidays UK. The company has seen its fortunes grow during his tenure, through four PE sponsor transactions, from being a sub £15 million company into the £1 billion business it is today. A sale to Sun Communities of the US has just been agreed.

UK – Xpediator plc has announced that Penny Gradwell has been appointed as a Director of the Fashion and Lifestyle division of Delamode International Logistics. She joins from Nippon Express and has long term experience in the field of fashion logistics.

SWITZERLAND – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that Marie Owens Thomsen will join the Association as its Chief Economist effective 4 January 2022 succeeding Brian Pearce who retired from the role earlier this year after serving since 2004. Owens Thomsen will come from Banque Lombard Odier, where she has served as Head of Global Trends and Sustainability since 2020. Prior to that she was the long-time Global Head of Investment Intelligence (2011-2020) at Indosuez Wealth Management.

Additionally, she has served in Chief Economist and related roles for Merrill Lynch, Dresdner Kleinwort Benson and HSBC. Her varied career also includes entrepreneurship and market development activities. She holds a PhD in International Economics from The Graduate Institute in Geneva and an MBA equivalent from the University of Gothenburg in International Economics and Business. Holding US, UK and Swiss nationalities, she has worked in the UK, France and Switzerland and is fluent in Swedish, English and French.

SWEDEN – Erik Lewenhaupt will become CEO of Concordia Maritime on 1 January 2022 after Kim Ullman informed the Board of his wish to step down as CEO and retire. The new CEO started his tanker career at Nordström & Thulin in 1996, and was later recruited to Stena Bulk, where he was tanker chartering manager in both Gothenburg and Singapore. His most recent position has been Head of Sustainability at Stena Line.

Outgoing Kim Ullman was involved in starting and establishing Stena’s tanker shipping business, now Stena Bulk and Concordia Maritime and has been both influential and instrumental in several crucial transactions. In addition to his position as Vice President of Stena Bulk for many years, Kim has also been CEO of Stentex, Head of Stena Bulk’s Houston office and CEO of Stena LNG and Stena Weco. For the last eight years, he has been CEO of Concordia Maritime.

FRANCE – Digital freight forwarder sennder has appointed Anthony Guillouet as Managing Director of France. He takes over from Maxime Legardez, former Managing Director of sennder France and founder of Everoad which sennder acquired in 2020. Anthony brings over 20 years of experience to the business. He has held various roles at DB Schenker, most recently working as the Land Sales Director & Head of Road Brokerage, where he oversaw a team of 450 chartering and sales personnel in France.

US – The Transportation Institute (TI) announced the addition of Sarah Scherer as Vice President of Pacific Coast Operations. This appointment follows the retirement of Richard Berkowitz, who served as a dedicated advocate to the US maritime sector and mariners across the country for nearly 27 years at TI.

Sarah joins TI from the City of Seattle, where she served as the Maritime and Manufacturing Advocate in the Office of Economic Development. Starting as a graduate of the Texas Maritime Academy, Sarah brings over 30 years of in-depth private and public sector operational, business, academic, policy, and leadership experience in the maritime sector to TI.
