UK – In order to assist freight forwarders and others in the supply chain in the run up to the London Olympic and Paralympic games which take place in the Summer the British International Freight Association (BIFA) has added a dedicated area on its website to offer logistics advice to provide information that will help mitigate disruption to cargo collection and delivery activities.

As with our recent article regarding advice from Transport for London (TfL) urging stakeholders to attend the free workshops available the BIFA page also links to other relevant organisations each offering advice including the London Chamber of Commerce, London Councils, which represents the thirty three local authorities, and the Road Haulage Association. Peter Quantrill, BIFA Director General, said:

“While the sporting efforts of the athletes from around the world who are taking the challenges of both the Olympic and Paralympic games will rightly take centre stage, equally vital will be the work of those who in the freight industry supply the stadia and wider community during the weeks of the competitions.

“We are on the starting line with our members and the wider freight community in planning ahead to reduce the disruption and problems these events will create with a special area of our website. As well as a full list of relevant Olympic links, news and downloads, transport planners can see items which explain such things as: Out-of-hours deliveries during London 2012 Games; online resources to help the freight industry plan for London 2012 Games, as well as other relevant and useful content.

“I would invite all those involved in the UK supply chain during the period of the Olympics to keep returning to this section of our website to keep abreast of relevant news downloads to help reduce or resolve any logistics problems likely to arise from these events.

“Athletes from around the world tirelessly plan and practice for months and years to take part in the Olympics. Our members must also plan to mitigate disruptions to their clients’ supply chains during the Olympic and Paralympic events. The new area of our website will help them to achieve that and make sure that they will all bring home gold for their clients!”
