WALES – One man was injured and three are on the run after trying to steal three lorries last night from a Flintshire haulage company.

The gang used the stolen trucks to smash through the gates of R J Jones yard at 1am last night and headed for Cheshire. However, they were intercepted by police at a car park near Ellesmere Port.

The gang member who was injured jumped from one of the stolen vehicles in an attempt to escape but was struck by an HGV driven by one of his associates. He is currently under arrest and being treated for a damaged pelvis in Chester.

The remaining three raiders escaped but the trucks, worth £150,000, were recovered shortly afterwards. Police are now conducting forensic examinations on the vehicles.

Bill Foulkes, operations manager at R.J. Jones Haulage, expressed his anger by saying that: “The haulage industry is on its knees. We now have three vehicles off the road and three drivers with potentially no jobs, although we will find them something to do because obviously it’s not their fault.”

R.J. Jones employ 120 drivers and operate 88 vehicles and have depots in Yorkshire and Northampton as well as North Wales.
