UK – There are three weeks remaining for women who work in the freight, shipping and logistics industries to be nominated for the UK’s MAN everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards 2010.

Awards categories include those responsible for managing warehouses, those starting out in the industry, commercial drivers, directors and women leading successful teams.

The MAN everywoman in Transport & Logistic Awards is the only programme of its kind showcasing the UK logistics industry’s most talented and inspirational women and is designed to create role models who contradict any pre-conceived ideas that the industry is a place that offers few opportunities for women.

Maxine Benson, Co-founder and Director of everywoman comments, “Despite the progress that has already been made, women are still greatly under-represented in the industry.”

“It is a sector full of fantastic career opportunities which these awards seek to highlight in order to demonstrate to other young females the various different options and roles that women already excel in.”

For a third year running MAN trucks has agreed to sponsor the event with Des Evans, Chief Executive of MAN Truck and Bus UK saying that: “It’s again a great pleasure for MAN Truck & Bus UK to be sponsoring the everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards for the third consecutive year. The previous awards in 2008 and 2009 were such a success we were honoured to be asked to a part of them again in 2010.

“MAN has a long established program of encouraging women to enter and excel in what by many is seen as a traditionally male dominated industry. This perception is continuing to diminish fast as growing numbers of energetic, career minded women choose to work in transport and logistics.

“If the calibre of the previous year’s nominees and winners are anything to go by these awards are a testament to all the women working within this sector. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the entrants good luck in their chosen category.”

The awards ceremony and lunch will be held at the Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, on Thursday 13 May 2010. Nominations will close on 10 February 2010 and entries can be made online here.
