UK – Having finished his stint as the longest serving team captain on the BBC's Question of Sport, and presumably given up waiting for the phone to ring from the selectors after three tours with the British and Irish Lions, which included a World Cup win in 2003, rugby legend Matt Dawson is free to host the 33rd iteration of the British International Freight Association (BIFA) Awards in January.

The annual awards are always one of the most keenly anticipated events in the shipping industry calendar, providing both a celebration lunch, entertainment, a networking opportunity and a chance to catch up with old friends and colleagues.

With his entertainment pedigree established in a long running double act with ex England spin bowler Phil Tuffnell on the sporting question show, Dawson would seem to be a good choice to restart the event after the interruption of the pandemic.

Entries to the awards are still open and BIFA Director General, Robert Keen says that it’s not too late for members to emulate the victorious 2003 England rugby team with a last minute drop goal! He said:

”Overcoming last minute challenges to achieve success characterises all of the companies that win a BIFA freight service award and Matt Dawson, and his team mates from 2003, is a great example of someone that understands the sporting equivalent of a final mile, or last minute, delivery.

“Every year, after the awards have taken place, I get members who say that they wish they had entered. I would urge all members to think about their applications now, so they don’t have any regrets later.”

Although entries officially were due in by 7 October BIFA says it will still consider any entered for some of the awards a little late, with applications to be completed HERE. BIFA’s Freight Service Awards are open to all members of the trade association, which represents UK companies engaged in managing the international movement of freight by all modes of transport. Sponsored by a number of blue chip companies, each of the award categories is recognised as very prestigious and winning an award has become more coveted year-on-year.

The 2021 awards ceremony luncheon is scheduled to take place at The Brewery in London on Thursday January 20th next year when Matt Dawson will host many BIFA members and their guests in attendance. A full list of the eleven categories is viewable HERE.
