US – Beginning the staff changes this week in those positions which have a direct effect on the supply chain and those working in the freight and logistics sector, comes news that Elaine Chao has been sworn in the 18th Secretary of Transportation in what has been seen by many as one of the more sensible and least controversial appointments to come out of the Trump Presidency so far. Chao, a veteran Cabinet Secretary, has previously served as Labor Secretary under George W Bush between 2001 and 2009 and as Deputy Transport Secretary under the George H W Bush administration. Her experience will come in handy as she plays a central role in Trump’s promise to overhaul America’s infrastructure, though the question remains, how exactly is the current administration going to raise the $1 trillion Trump promised.

US – Keeping with the Trump administration's industry selections, Michael Khouri has been designated Acting Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), succeeding Mario Cordero who has held position since 2013.

US – Art Torno has announced his decision to retire from his role as Senior Vice President of International and Cargo at American Airlines, effective in April, after 38 years with the airline. Jim Butler has been announced to replace Torno and will report to Kerry Philipovitch, Senior Vice President – Customer Experience. Butler has been with the airline for 21 years and most recently served as President of American Airlines Cargo.

US – OL International has announced the promotion of Carrie Murphy to Chief Commercial Officer of OL USA (formerly TTS Worldwide).

US – Dupré Logistics has announced the retirement of its Chief Financial Officer, Doug Place, after 22 years with the company.

CANADA – Westport Fuel Systems has announced that Warren Baker has decided to step down as Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective since February 1. Baker remains on the WFS board and will continue as Chair of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. Brenda Eprile, a Director since 2013, takes over as the new Chairman of the Board.

CANADA – Livingston International has announced Daniel McHugh as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. McHugh takes over the role from John Clancey, who will maintain his role as Chairman of the Board.

GERMANY – After nearly 8 years as CEO of Deutsche Bahn, Dr Rüdiger Grube handed in his resignation, effective immediately. CFO, Dr Richard Lutz will serve as interim CEO until a successor is appointed.

GERMANY – Thorsten Beer will assume the position of Chief Financial Officer at JF Hillebrand Group on April 1, succeeding Kevin Brock, who will retire on March 31, after 24 years with the company.

GERMANY – Steve Dawson and Alex Karakassis have been appointed Managing Directors of Hansa Heavy Lift, taking over from outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Roger Iliffe, with immediate effect. Dawson will oversee Hansa Heavy Lift’s engineering, technical, and operational activities, and Karakassis, who remains Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will oversee the company’s commercial and financial activities.

GREECE – Aegean Shipping has announced the appointment of Apostolos Poulovassilis as CEO, effective immediately.

FRANCE – Neopost Shipping has appointed Daniel Malouf as Chief Operating Officer, taking over from Alain Férard, who is retiring after 10 years with the company.

UK – The Mission to Seafarers has announced Tom Broadley, Executive Vice President of Lloyd’s Registers, as its new Chairman. Broadley will formally take on the role from the incumbent Chairman Robert Woods CBE, on April 1.

UK – Global Ship Lease has announced the appointment of Thomas Lister as Chief Financial Officer, effective April 1. Lister will succeed Susan Cook, who will remain in an advisory capacity once she steps down.

UK – The Board of HS2 has confirmed Mark Thurston to be the new CEO, effective this spring.

EUROPE – INDIA – Air Charter Service has announced the promotions of Ashish Wastrad to Managing Director of the India office, and Shahvez Jafary to Commercial Director, both effective immediately.

The appointments come following previous Managing Director, Tracy D’Cruz’s promotion to Regional Director for ACS’s European offices.

DUBAI – Narrow Aisle has appointed Damien Murray to head up the company’s Business Development across Middle East and Africa. Murray will be based in Dubai.
