The Weekly Look at Staff Moves Starts with New Warehouse Association Bosses

UK – This week the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) named Clare Bottle FCILT as its Chief Executive Officer. A well-known logistics industry figure Clare will take over the role from 1 July and replace Peter Ward who announced he was to step down from the role earlier this month.

Clare joins UKWA from Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, where she was Associate Director of Warehousing, responsible for managing 3PL contracts and UK warehouse operations. She was one of the founder members of Women in Logistics and in recent years she has also been a trustee of CILT (UK) and of Transaid, UKWA’s nominated charity.

Newly elected Chair of the UKWA management board Neil Bowker, welcomed the appointment saying Clare’s 25 years+ experience and reputation for driving change was welcomed, whilst Clare herself commented:

“I am passionate about warehousing and logistics and am delighted to have the opportunity to make a difference in the industry in my new role. I believe it is vital for the future to attract and nurture best talent to our industry; careers are an essential engine of social mobility and I am committed to making the logistics profession increasingly equitable and inclusive. Above all, it is my ambition as CEO of UKWA to secure for warehousing and logistics operations the place they deserve at the heart of the UK economy.”

The same Annual general Meeting of the UKWA which confirmed the new CEO position had just confirmed Neil Bowker, Commercial Director of Bowker Group, as its new management board Chair taking over from the incumbent Nicola Ridges-Jones, Managing Director of MS Holdings (South) Ltd. She thanked Bowker for his great support and proactive stance while serving as her Vice Chair saying his considerable industry experience and expertise will undoubtedly prove a great asset to the UKWA for the future

CARIBBEAN – Effective since June 1, Matthias Reinarz has been appointed new Managing Director for Svitzer in the Dominican Republic & Caribbean. He replaces Dickson Rivas, who after a long career with Svitzer is stepping down and retiring by the end of the year. Until his retirement, Rivas will remain available as Special Advisor.

US – Three new Senior Executive Service career staff members have been hired in recent months for key management and leadership roles at the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC).

Lucille Marvin assumed the duties of Managing Director as of June 14. Marvin comes to the Commission from the Surface Transportation Board (STB) where she served as the Director of the Office of Public Assistance, Governmental Affairs, and Compliance. She was previously on the staff of the Federal Maritime Commission before joining the STB in 2008. 

Earlier this spring, Patrick Moore was hired to serve as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Enterprise Services; and Kristen Monaco to serve as Director of the Bureau of Trade Analysis. All three individuals were hired to fill vacancies created by retirements.

US – XPO Logistics has announced Meagan Fitzsimmons to the leadership team of GXO Logistics, the intended spin-off of XPO’s logistics business. Fitzsimmons currently serves as XPO’s Chief Compliance Officer for the logistics segment. She will be responsible for GXO’s global ethics and compliance infrastructure when the planned spin-off is complete. 

US – Norfolk Southern (NS) has announced Jason Morris as its new Vice President Labor Relations. He will succeed Scott Weaver, who is retiring from the company after 32 years of service. Morris, who currently serves as Assistant Vice President Safety and Environmental, will assume his new role on October 1 following Weaver’s retirement. Morris will report to Annie Adams, Executive Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer.

US – Aries Worldwide Logistics has appointed Russ Schamun as its first Chief Operating Officer.

UK – The New York Shipping Exchange (NYSHEX) has named Jeremy Haycock as Managing Director for Europe to establish operations on the continent. The Europe office, which will be based in the UK, will be launched the second half of 2021.

Haycock joins NYSHEX from Maersk, where he was most recently the Managing Director for UK and Ireland. He is also an angel investor in NYSHEX and served as Chairman of the NYSHEX Board of Directors from 2015 to 2019. Haycock will start his new role at NYSHEX on August 2.

UK – Keith Wallace has been named as the new Chair of Crossrail International, for a three-year term starting on July 1. He succeeds Sir Terry Morgan CBE, who has served as founding Chair of Crossrail International since 2018.

UK – Pall-Ex Group has expanded its network team with a raft of new appointments, following the acquisition of the Fortec Distribution Network in 2020 and the introduction of its shareholder model.

Laura Brown, Nick Antill-Holmes, Alice Holdsworth and Kieran Lloyd Jones have been appointed Network Compliance Managers, while Rebecca Wayte has joined as Head of Network – North and Craig Chapman as Head of Network – South East, Emma Beales as Head of Network – Midlands and Ashely Diamond as Head of Network - South West.

Member Development Director, Mark Barlow, has recently been appointed to increase shareholder membership, focusing on key regions for the Fortec Distribution Network, including Scotland.

UK – Eezehaul Logistics has named Allen Rees, as its new Managing Director, to work alongside current Directors, Jane Jones and Craig Wilson. Rees was formerly a general manager at Fagan and Whalley, and then MD at Prestons of Potto. His most recent appointment was as Commercial Director at parent company, The Pallet Network (TPN).

Jones will continue her role of Financial Director, which she has held for several years. As MD, she led the team through the twin challenges of Brexit and Covid. She will now assume a part-time position, focusing on finance, in order to fulfil family and other personal commitments.

TPN has also announced the appointment of Nada Marinovic as a Network Developer, effective since June 1.

EUROPE – The Association of European Vehicle Logistics (ECG) has announced the (re)election of the Board. During its recent meeting, the Board was unanimously re-elected for another one year term and welcomed one new Board Member and one returning.

Olivier Benguigui (GEFCO) was a returning candidate having stood down in 2018. Nikos Paterakis (Neptune Lines), a new candidate, was also elected. Paterakis is a longstanding active member of ECG. Emmanuel Arnaud (GEFCO) stepped down from the Board.

INDIA – The Mahindra Group has announced the appointment of Pratap Bose as the Executive Vice President and Chief Design Officer to lead its newly formed Global Design organisation.

SINGAPORE – Law firm HFW has announced the appointment of Master Mariner Mark Myles. Since qualifying as a solicitor, Myles has been undertaking a broad range of maritime work. He is a Freeman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners and Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute.
