SINGAPORE – US – GREECE – The unfortunate passing of Mei Lin Goh, the former long-standing head of Watson, Farley & Williams (WFW) Singapore and one of Asia’s leading maritime lawyers, has been announced by the company following her battle with cancer.

Mei, who joined the firm in September 1998, was loved and respected by all who knew and worked with her and will be hugely missed. WFW just won’t be the same without her. The company asks you to remember Mei and extend your thoughts and prayers to her husband Michael and two daughters.

Elsewhere WFW has announced that newly elected Senior Partner and Global Maritime Sector Co-Head George Paleokrassas has moved across the Atlantic to head up the firm’s New York office. George replaces long-standing Office Head and highly regarded maritime finance Partner Daniel Rodgers.

George previously headed up the firm’s Athens office from 2005, growing it to become the largest international law firm in Greece and in the top five overall. He is the only lawyer listed in top legal directory Chambers & Partners’ elite ‘eminent practitioner’ category for shipping finance in Greece.

UK – Warehouse space strategist, Bis Henderson Space, has strengthened its management team with the appointment of Emily Cozens to the position of Business Development Manager for the North of the country. Emily’s appointment is the latest in a phased recruitment drive to support plans for significant, sustainable growth of the business and follows the recent appointment of Alex Murray to a similar role in the South.

The two regional Business Development Managers will work closely to provide a co-ordinated, strategic approach to serving clients’ needs across the regions. With a proven track record in eCommerce and retail spanning 17 years, and having performed management roles at TNT Logistics, The DX and Fedex, Emily brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Bis Henderson Space. Most recently she was Business Development Manager for Moran Logistics, specialists in chilled distribution.

UK – WORLDWIDE – Warehouse and industrial impact protection equipment specialist Brandsafe has appointed a senior executive as it continues to invest in its UK and international operations. Rob Taylor joins as commercial operations director of the Milton Keynes-based company and brings over 30 years’ experience in senior management, procurement, staff development, cost and quality control to the role.

Taylor will be responsible for leading the operational side of Brandsafe’s business as it continues to develop and grow throughout the UK, across the EU and North America, drawing on a wealth of knowledge and expertise previously gained working in senior management and consulting positions within FTSE 100, SME and industrial companies.

US – Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael S. Regan announced that President Biden has appointed Dr David Cash to become EPA’s Regional Administrator for Region 1. Dr Cash will lead the implementation of the Biden-Harris environmental agenda in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and in 10 Tribal Nations.

Dr Cash has spent his career in public service harnessing science, innovative policy and participatory decision-making to solve challenges and seize opportunities at the intersection of environment, economy and equity. In his most recent position he was the Dean of the John W. McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He spent a decade in Massachusetts state government where he held a range of senior positions.

US – UK – CakeBoxx Technologies has announced the appointment of systems engineering and Naval operations expert James Campbell as COO. Campbell will initially focus his operating and engineering services teams to support the United States and United Kingdom's evolving needs for specialised cargo handling, including specialty solutions for un-crewed, semi-autonomous and autonomous transportation platforms. Campbell will also oversee CakeBoxx Technologies' systems engineering services expansion to the wind energy markets and the nuclear power industry.

CHINA – Europa Air & Sea has appointed General Manager, Hugo Feng, to run its new Shanghai operation which has just opened in the Minhang District of the City. Hugo will oversee Europa’s domestic and international freight forwarding and logistics services within Northern and Eastern China.

Hugo brings a wealth of experience to his role, as well as the ability to bridge the gap between the European and Asian marketplaces. Europa Air & Sea is part of Europa Worldwide Group a privately-owned transport and logistics operator, which aims to surpass the £400 million turnover target this financial year. Europa Air and Sea was established as a separate division of the business in 2015 and has gone from strength to strength, expanding across the UK and overseas. It already has a presence in Hong Kong, with an established base for over a decade.

FRANCE – UK – In an ordinary and extraordinary General Meeting of Getlink’s shareholders on 27 April 2022 the Board of Directors has decided it will not propose the renewal of the terms of office of Patricia Hewitt nor Jean-Pierre Trotignon (twelve years’ tenure). Renewals will be sought for Corinne Bach, Elisabetta De Bernardi di Valserra, Carlo Bertazzo, Bertrand Badré and Jacques Gounon, whose terms of office expire at the end of the General Meeting, for a period of four years, as well as the renewal of Perrette Rey’s term of office for a period of one year.

Subject to renewal as Director the Board of Directors will decide on the renewal of Jacques Gounon's term of office as Chairman of the Board of Directors. The board will propose the appointment of Lord Ricketts, a former UK Ambassador to France and a member of the UK House of Lords, as a member of the Getlink Board of Directors. Also the appointment of Brune Poirson a French former minister committed to sustainable development, both for a period of four years.

BELGIUM – Bert Selis has joined Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) in the new role of VP Business Development, E-commerce, Express & Freight Forwarders EMEAA, based in Liege. Bert has close to 20 years’ experience in business development and sales in the air cargo and aviation industry. In his new role, reporting to Marc Claesen, WFS’ Senior Vice President Commercial EMEAA, Bert will support the company’s EMEAA Commercial Team in expanding WFS' strategic focus on e-commerce, express and freight forwarder activities in the region.

Bert has spent the last nine years working for Liège Airport, one of Europe’s biggest air cargo hubs, most recently as Vice President Cargo & Logistics, where he was responsible for the growth of the airport and attracting key global cargo play ers to Liege.

SWEDEN– NORWAY – Swedish based Echandia, a developer of battery systems for maritime electrification has appointed industry veteran Roy Storeng to lead the business development in Norway. Of the total number of fully electrified vessels globally, as much as 36% is operating in Norwegian waterways with no other countries coming close.

Roy has an extensive background in Norway and abroad, bringing expertise and experience from the maritime industry, after leading business development positions at Wärtsilä, GE Transportation and Bertel O. Steen.

NETHERLANDS – Jan Lagasse has been appointed as chairman of the Supervisory Board (SB) of Port of Amsterdam with effect from 1 April 2022. He succeeds Jeroen de Haas, who will leave the Supervisory Board of the Port of Amsterdam on the same date, after nine years as a member of the Supervisory Board.

Lagasse, 62, has a long track record at industrial companies, including Dow Chemical, Corus and Fokker. In 2014 he became CEO of Zeeland Seaports, which successfully merged with Ghent Port Company in 2018 to form the Dutch-Belgian North Sea Port, of which he became co-CEO.
