UK – Red Funnel Ferries, the 'Original Isle of Wight ferry operator', have sold their freight distribution division - Red Funnel Distribution Ltd. – to Cowes-based Steve Porter Transport Group (SPTG). The deal will see SPTG take over all of Red Funnel’s contract distribution, full loads, groupage and palletised services as well as the contract to be the Isle of Wight agent for BOC Gases.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Steve Porter Transport Group has acquired the transport division of Red Funnel Ferries,” said Steve Porter, Chairman of SPTG.

“This exciting development unites two market leaders with a combined 110 years in cross-Solent freight business. Together, we are uniquely positioned to provide a superior and comprehensive set of solutions to companies with cross- Solent requirements.

“All of this is, of course, in addition to our existing range of transport and distribution services that embrace the UK, European and export markets.”

SPTG has already seen expansions into bespoke packing and charter services for bulk coasters in UK and Northern European waters and this latest deal will, according to company sources, double SPTG’s capacity in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight.

In a message to the new clients his company had acquired Mr. Porter said:

“Rest assured that the company consolidation will be a gradual process, with no disruption to our customer service. We will use our web site to update you on our progress and will begin a programme of individual customer contacts and visits by our senior managers.

“We look forward to welcoming Red Funnel staff into the Steve Porter family and to creating something very special over the next few years.”
