Staff Moves in the Freight, Shipping and Logistics Sectors

US – Our weekly appointments and staff changes in the freight and shipping industry starts with the passing of George W Pasha III, who remained an active member of the transportation and logistics company, the Pasha Group until his death on August 20, following a short illness.

US – Richard Jacobsen, former President of Jacobsen Pilot Service at the Port of Long Beach, also unfortunately died on August 22, from complications of a long term illness.

US – Robert Sappio has been named as COO of SeaCube Container Leasing. Sappio left his position as President and CEO of Rickmers-Linie in July and had previously worked at APL in an Executive Position. Sappio will now report to company CEO Joseph Kwok.

US – The Port of Seattle has selected Ted Fink as its new CEO succeeding current CEO Tay Yoshitani who retires on September 30.

US – The Overseas Shipholding Group has announced Geoff Carpenter as Vice President and Treasurer. The group has also announced at the beginning of August, the retirement of President and CEO Capt. Robert Johnston. He will continue with the company in an advisory capacity as a Consultant through until mid-2015. A search is underway for a suitable replacement.

US – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has named T.F. Scott Darling III as acting Administrator following the departure of Anne Ferro who has taken up her new role as President and CEO of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators. Darling, currently Chief Counsel for the FMCSA, will serve until a permanent Administrator can be named.

CANADA – The International Air Transport Association has announced the appointment of Rudolfo Quevedo as Director of Safety, effective since September 2. Quevedo joins IATA’s Safety and Flight Operations team and will be based in Montreal. He will be responsible for Cabin Safety, Safety Management Systems (SMS), and Global Aviation Data Management (GADM). Quevedo joins IATA from the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) where he served as Director, Global Programmes.

CANADA – Bernie Dumas, President and CEO of the Nanaimo Port Authority, was elected as the new Chairman of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities. Karen Oldfield, President and CEO of the Halifax Port Authority, was selected as the incoming Vice-Chair of the Board and Pierre Gagnon, President and CEO of the Port of Sept-Iles comes in as Corporate Secretary/Treasurer.

QATAR – Effective since September 1, Matthew Ma has become Vice President of Cargo for the Asia region at Qatar Airways.

EGYPT – TNT Express Middle East has announced the appointment of Mohamed Hamal as the Country General Manage for TNT Express Egypt.

GREECE – Theodosis Stamatellos has been promoted to the role Marine Area Manager for Greece, East Mediterranean & Adriatic (GEMA) at Lloyds Register following the announcement that current GEMA Marine Area Manager Apostolos Poulovassilis, will leave LR in November to join Eletson Corp.

RUSSIA – Alexander Bashkov has been appointed to the position of Executive President Volga-Dnepr Airlines.

GERMANY – Gerhard Riemann has announced his retirement from Imperial Logistics International effective December 31. As of January 1, 2015, he will hand over his positions as Chairman of the Management Board of Imperial Logistics International - Duisburg, and as member of the Executive Committee of Imperial Holdings Limited in South Africa, to Carsten Taucke, who is currently the CEO of Imperial Shipping Group as well as member of the Management Board of Imperial Logistics International. Riemann will continue to be available until March 31, 2015 in order to ensure a smooth transition.

Meanwhile Rüdiger Buß, CEO of Imperial subsidiary Panopa Logistik, will become Deputy Chairman. His duties at Panopa will remain unchanged. Also effective January 1, 2015, Taucke’s successor as CEO of Imperial Shipping Group - Duisburg will be Robert Baack, currently COO of the Imperial Shipping Group, on a temporary basis. Baack will then hand over responsibility to Uwe Wedig when he is released from his contract by his present employer. Henning Bosch, currently member of the Management Board of Imperial Shipping Services, will be the new COO of the Imperial Shipping Group.

UK – Clarkson PLC has announced that James Hughes-Hallet has joined the Board as a Non-Executive Director with immediate effect, and will take over as Chairman from January 1, 2015 when Bob Benton will retire from his position at the top.

UK – Pall-Ex has appointed experienced logistics expert Kevin Morley to its UK board.
