CAMBODIA – Freight forwarding and contract logistics service provider Yusen Logistics has expanded its Asian operations by establishing Yusen Logistics (Cambodia) Co., Ltd, in the country’s capital, Phnom Penh after seeing a steady growth in both the air and ocean cargo export and import shipping markets within the country.

Yusen Logistics set up a Phnom Penh Representative Office in 2011 and has developed its business through local partners as the Cambodian economy grew. According to Yusen, the volume of ocean cargo has increased 30% year on year, which has achieved 30% share of all container freight from Cambodia to Japan. In addition, the company says that the volume of air cargo has also risen steadily and with the backdrop of this estimated high growth and demand for transportation, the company decided to launch the new corporation.

Yusen has developed a range of forwarding services, including the procurement logistics of clothing from Cambodia for distribution to major retailers in Japan, Europe, and the United States, a consolidation service for smaller shipments from Cambodia, which the company says got the jump on the competition, and air cargo services using its own network in Asia.

The group is also strengthening its cross-border trucking networks from Thailand through Cambodia to Vietnam, using the Southern Economic Corridor whilst already providing transportation at ambient temperatures and making preparations for refrigerated and chilled transport services.

Yusen says that it will enhance its services and overseas networks, providing new services that encompass the rapidly growing Indochinese market, including Cambodia, and actively pursuing new avenues for its logistics team.
