Somali Pirates Raid Shipping with Hijack of another Tanker

SOMALIA – EUNAVFOR, the EU naval taskforce assigned to protect shipping around the Horn of Africa, has reported that another tanker has been seized in the Indian Ocean.

According to reports the MV Jubba XX, a 4831dwt UAE owned and flagged tanker was seized on the morning of Saturday the 16th of July whilst undertaking a regular run between the United Arab Emirates and the port of Berbera, Somalia.

The vessel was identified by maritime patrol aircraft on the morning of the 17th some one hundred nautical miles north-west of Socotra Island, heading to the northern Somali coast. EUNAVFOR state they believe there is suspected to be nine Somali pirates are on board.

The MV Jubba XX’s crew is made up of 5 Indian, 3 Bangladesh, 1 Sudanese, 1 Myanmar, 1 Kenyan, 4 Somali and 1 Sri Lankan. The current condition of the crew is unknown at this time.
