Smartphone Group Awards New Logistics and Distribution Contract

Direct Selling Has Pushed Xiaomi to Third Largest in the World

MALAYSIA – Xiaomi may be a name unfamiliar to many but the company, founded in 2010, has grown rapidly, mainly by direct selling techniques, to become the third largest smartphone producer in the world. Now a new contract to undertake Xiaomi’s distribution and other logistics needs has been awarded to freight transport specialist Ceva.

Under the terms of this contract, Ceva will manage the 1,500 square metre e-commerce distribution centre which holds Xiaomi's handsets and accessories. Ceva's services include receiving, checking, storage, orders picking process, packaging and orchestrating all shipping and administration across the country.

Xiaomi's unique business strategy of selling products directly to consumers, primarily through their online site, Mi.com. The company put together a team of Google, Kingsoft, Microsoft, Motorola, Yahoo, and other Internet and tech companies from around the world and developed the Mi brand which requires the company to have a strong supply chain management provider who understands e-commerce and is able to handle their distribution centre's logistics needs from end to end. Hugo Barra, Xiaomi's Vice President, Global, said:
