Shipping and the Law Conference Will Focus on Where the Industry is Heading

Fourth Annual Event to Concentrate on Energy, Risk, Finance and Legal Matters

ITALY – WORLDWIDE – The Santa Chiara Monastery in Naples will be the scene for the fourth annual Shipping and the Law Conference hosted by Studio Legale Lauro. These conferences offer a forum for debate and discussion on pressing industry topics, with a particular emphasis on legal, finance and insurance perspectives. This year the one-day conference takes as its theme ‘Where is Shipping Going?’ examining the key subjects impacting the industry; the quest for energy efficiency, sources of finance, risk management and winning strategies: buy, build or charter.

Conference organiser and Managing Partner of Studio Legale Lauro, Francesco Lauro says the confidence shown in the event by speakers and sponsors reflects the need for sustainable strategies as the industry emerges from downturn. The opening session, sponsored by Wartsila, ‘New Technical Solutions’, includes an analysis of environmental regulatory drivers and of the most cost-effective steps to assure legal compliance as well as technical solutions to reducing bunker consumption and ensure energy efficient shipping operations.

Session Two, ‘Sailing Towards New Financial Solutions’, is chaired by former Intesa Sanpaolo General Manager Giuseppe Castagna and Managing Director, Venice Shipping and Logistics, Fabrizio Vettosi, with input from finance, insurance and legal experts including senior representatives from the European Investment Bank, SACE and DVB’s Hugo Modderman whilst the first afternoon session, ‘Managing the Risks’ examines insurance issues opening with a paper, ‘Paying for shipping catastrophes’, which will be followed by on how ’Hull and machinery insurers sail the troubled shipping waters’.

The closing session, ‘Buy, Build, Charter’, is chaired by London Maritime Arbitrators Association Member Clive Aston and Confitarma Young Ship Owners President Valeria Novella. The Conference will be followed by a Gala Dinner at the Complesso Monumentale di Santa Chiara. Shipping and the Law in the Recent and Current Markets, 2013 will be held at the Complesso Monumentale di Santa Chiara, Via S.
