UK - Schenker Limited, the UK freight division of the DB Schenker logistics group, has signed the largest pre-let new building deal at a London Heathrow facility for five years. The deal will see the company have build-to-suit office and warehouse premises of 9,900 sq m on a site adjacent to its current premises.

The Portal site, opposite the cargo terminal at the UK's leading gateway airport, is one of very few prime sites available and, subject to the relevant planning consents, building will start in 2012 with completion scheduled for mid year.

The ultra-modern building will feature a reduction of 25% CO2 emissions, low and zero carbon air source heat pumps servicing office cooling and warehouse under floor heating, rainwater harvesting, a heat recovery ventilation system, PIR (passive infared) and photoelectric lighting controls plus a BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) Rating of Very Good.

"Our current facility was simply not designed for a twenty first century freight and logistics operation,“ says Managing Director, Jochen Müller.

“The aim is to use the new facility to further expand our position especially within the UK airfreight market.”
