TAIWAN – This week’s round-up of staff changes and appointments in the world of freight and logistics begins with the sad news that Chang Yung-fa, founder of the Evergreen Group, has died at the age of 88. Chang started what is now one of the world’s largest shipping companies in 1968 with a second-hand cargo carrier. He rapidly grew the business and expanded its offerings further to encompass operations in energy development, air transport, hotels and resort services.

UAE – In a move which surprised many in the industry, port management giant DP World has announced the resignation of its CEO Mohammed Sharaf, effective immediately, to pursue other opportunities. Sharaf had been Group CEO for 11 years and as the search for a successor begins, Chairman Sultan bin Sulayem takes over in the interim.

HONG KONG – DHL Express has announced the appointment of Herbert Vongpusanachai as Managing Director of DHL Express Hong Kong and Macau, succeeding Ken Lee, now CEO, DHL Express Asia Pacific.

SINGAPORE – The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has named Simon Neo as its new Regional Manager in Asia, based at the Singapore Office.

NETHERLANDS – CH Robinson has named Ivo Aris as the company’s Vice President of Europe Global Forwarding.

GERMANY – UK – Hansa Heavy Lift has appointed Mark Preece as its new Senior Advisor to help the company grow its presence in the global offshore industry. Preece is currently non-Executive Director at the Port of Tyne.

UK – Lloyds Register has announced the appontment of Tom Broadley, current Marine Business Stream Director, as Executive Vice President and Global Head of Corporate and External Affairs. Reporting to Alastair Marsh, Boardley will work across LR’s global business, taking up his new position in March 2016.

Nick Brown, currently Marine Chief Operating Officer, has been promoted to the role of Marine Business Director, and will join Broadley on LR’s executive leadership team.

UK – The UKWA has announced the appointment of Shoaib Vakil as its new Commercial Manager. Prior to joining the UKWA, Vakil held senior operational roles with a number of well-known 3PL specialists. Shoaib’s principal responsibility will be to develop and oversee the smooth running of UKWA’s various Affinity Schemes.

UK – Associated British Ports (ABP) Humber has announced the appointment of Mark Collier to the role of Dock Master Hull & Goole, with Grant Fotheringham who will be supporting Collier as the new Senior Assistant Dock Master for Hull and Goole.

UK – Joanna Whittington has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) on an interim basis. Recruitment for a permanent chief executive is anticipated to begin in the summer with an appointment to be made for 1 January 2017.

UK – Safmarine has appointed Gary Jeffreys as its new Country Manager for the UK and Ireland to succeed Mal Hurdidge. In this role Jeffreys will oversee the relocation of the UK office from Felixstowe to Liverpool.

UK – US – Mercedes Benz USA has announced the appointment of Mark Aikman to General Manager – Marketing Services, effective immediately. Aikman has served in the position in an acting capacity since July 2015 and reports to Drew Slaven, Vice President of Marketing.

The company also announced Adam Chamberlain as its new Vice President of Sales, effective April 1. Currently Sales Director of Passenger Cars for the UK branch, Chamberlain replaces Dietmar Exler who is now President and CEO for Mercedes Benz USA. In his new role Chamberlain will report directly to Exler.

US – MOL America has announced Ronnie Armstrong to the position of Vice President, Area Operations, reporting to Richard Craig, President and CEO of MOL America.

US – Caterpillar has elected Denise Johnson, current Vice President with responsibility for the Material Handling and Underground, as the company’s new Group President of Resources Industries, effective April 1. She succeeds current Group President Ed Rapp who recently announced his retirement.

US – Allison Transmission has named Alvaro Garcia-Tunon to its Board of Directors, effective immediately, following Marsha Mishler's decision to step down as a Director. The Company also announced that Gregory Ledford will retire from the Allison Board when his current term expires later this year.

US – Alaska Airlines has named Matt Prainito Managing Director of Airport Operations. In his new role, Prainito will coordinate regional Directors, overseeing airport operations and lead customer service across 6 operating regions – except Seattle.

US – Peter Goodson has resigned from the Goodrich Petroleum board of Directors for health related reasons.

US – ShipHawk has announced the appointment of Sharon Goldstein as Chief Revenue Officer.

US – Thor Industries has announced that Andy Cripe, President of its CrossRoads subsidiary, has resigned from his role, effective immediately, to pursue other interests.
