UK – ITALY – French headquartered road haulage and logistics group Norbert Dentressangle seems to be flying high of late after picking up several new supply chain contracts and renewals and now things seem to be really ‘taking off’ as Norbert Dentressangle announces the landing of a major freight contract renewal with Anglo-Italian helicopter design and manufacturing firm, AgustaWestland. Owned by Italy’s Finmeccanica, AgustaWestland operates globally through a number of subsidiaries, joint ventures and collaborative programmes with major aerospace and defence companies. With over 13,000 employees, AgustaWestland has revenues of €4.2 billion and has its main facilities in Italy, UK, USA and Poland.

Norbert Dentressangle has worked with the UK operation of AgustaWestland, based at Yeovil, Somerset, since 2001 and provides a flexible logistics operation for the transportation of a wide range of helicopter parts for both commercial and military operators. With daily collections and over 19,000 shipments made annually, a team from Norbert Dentressangle’s Specialist Services business manages deliveries by being based on-site at Yeovil and at key customer site Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Culdrose in Helston, Cornwall, which is the largest helicopter base in Europe with around 75 aircraft.

As well as a next day delivery and collection service for a wide range of parts, the Norbert Dentressangle Specialist Services network provides a same-day service to any part of the UK for helicopter breakdown repairs, known as ‘aircraft on ground’ (AOG). A spokesperson for AgustaWestland said:

“The relationship we have developed with Norbert Dentressangle over the last 12 years ensures we can work closely together to cost effectively manage volume spikes and support special requests. In both the commercial and military sectors, the reactive same-day service for AOG parts to any helicopter in the UK is a key part of the solution Norbert Dentressangle provides.”

Both the AgustaWestland and RNAS Culdrose sites feature Norbert Dentressangle integrated IT systems that link with driver in-cab technology to provide real time information on the movement of parts across the UK, as well as proof of delivery information.
