US – The American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition in October 2015 in Philadelphia will feature the seventh straight year that Volvo recognises the two road freight fleets with the safest driving records and top safety programmes with its Volvo Trucks Safety Awards.
The Volvo Trucks Safety Award is open to all US and Canadian fleets operating at least five Class 8 units. Fleets must have at least one Volvo tractor in operation to be eligible for the award. Entrants will be ranked by their accident frequency rates and will also be judged on their accident prevention activities. The two grand prizes will be awarded to the fleets with the best records in two divisions based on annual vehicle miles travelled: less than 20 million miles and more than 20 million miles.
The deadline for entry is June 30, 2015 and, as well as the undoubted prestige of winning a safety award, the addition of a $25,000 prize to be used for their safety-related activities will doubtless make the achievement even sweeter for the victors. Göran Nyberg, President of Volvo Trucks North America, commented:
“Nothing is more important in managing a fleet than maintaining a stellar safety record, and we are proud to honour the trucking industry’s best performers again this year. Safety is a core value at Volvo, and we are proud to offer active safety technologies to help make the highways safer for everyone and passive safety features to help protect a fleet’s most valuable asset: the driver.”
Michelin Americas Truck Tires will again join Volvo Trucks in sponsoring the annual award. Michelin has been a supporting sponsor since 2010 and Mike Cain, Michelin Americas Truck Tires Vice President of Original Equipment, observed:
“Michelin Americas Truck Tires is proud to continue our sponsorship of the Volvo Trucks Safety Award. This award embodies the commitment to safety that has been a foundation of Michelin for 120 years, and we are thrilled to again participate with Volvo Trucks in recognising the safest truck fleets in North America.”
