NETHERLANDS – News in overnight that two freight trains collided overnight near Barendrecht in Holland. The crash is said to have occurred under a viaduct on the outskirts of Rotterdam.
A further passenger train which was struck in the incident reported as being en route from Amsterdam to Brussels and was carrying an estimated 150 passengers all of whom were left unhurt. Preliminary reports indicate that a freight train hit the express after “several of its wagons left the tracks”.
Conflicting early reports have the driver of one of the freight trains reported as killed with other victims injured and hospitalised. All rail traffic between Rotterdam and Dordrecht is reported to have been halted by the crash.
