UK – WORLDWIDE – The logistics industry has always had its share of tenacious performers when it comes to establishing a business, and for those prepared to stick out their necks and specialise in traditionally tricky areas, an established and respected company is often the end result. Despite commencing business at a time when many others were failing, Tuscor Lloyd’s is celebrating this year two decades from humble beginnings in a small one room office in Manchester to recognition as a global player in the forwarding and project freight sector.

Already this 20th anniversary year is proving a strong one commercially, in February 2014 the firm was named in the London Stock Exchange ‘1000 Companies to Inspire Britain’, selected from a list of 4.5 million British companies, and in March Tuscor Lloyds was selected by the UK newspaper, Greater Manchester Business Week, as one of North West England’s ‘Fastest 50’ growing companies. Now a world recognised brand with offices in key transport hubs around the globe, international accolades are also forthcoming.

Tuscor Lloyds Mexico has been awarded ‘Carrier of the Year’ by one of its key customers, Walmart, beating several large shipping lines and freight forwarders to the title. The Spanish office continues to grow and expand in the toughest business environment for a generation, now operating 3 offices in the country plus in the past two years the company has added Canada and Hong Kong to its portfolio of worldwide operational offices. The group continues to grow steadily and sustainably overseas, with all branches being self-financing and independent.

Tuscor Lloyds has become known in the industry for its ability to transport complex shipments of any size or weight to destinations around the globe. Over the years the company has built an impressive portfolio of customers, including its own peers during which the company often undertakes shipments on behalf of other forwarders and it continues to handle cargoes which other shipping companies find particularly challenging or difficult. In recognition of its continuing innovation and service to the shipping industry, Tuscor Lloyds was awarded the ‘Project / Heavy Lift Forwarder of the Year’ award at the Global Freight Awards in November.

A recent delivery illustrates the point perfectly when the company was contracted to ship 16 pieces of cargo destined for Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea. The OTCC Hammermill System is to be used on an offshore oil rig named ‘Deepsea Aberdeen’ in the North Sea which will operate just off the UK coast following its construction in the Far East.

Tuscor Lloyds was called in to organise transportation for the OTCC Hammermill System from Middlesbrough, UK to port Busan, South Korea. The shipment was arranged between Christmas and New Year 2013, meaning many businesses were closed and vessel availability limited, but an experienced staff and strong company connections overcame any issues for Tuscor Lloyds, despite the heaviest piece weighing in at over 44 tonnes.

A dedicated ship was chartered to ship the cargo from the port of Middlesbrough to Rotterdam where it arrived on New Year’s Eve and was discharged from the chartered vessel on the first working day of 2014. Once the cargo was unloaded from the first ship, it was reloaded back out of Rotterdam to the mother vessel bound for South Korea, where it arrived thirty days later before offloading in perfect condition.

With many such successful movements under their belts the management team at Tuscor Lloyd’s believe the future is bright and the company says it hopes that the expansion of core services and continuous innovation which made it stand out in its first 20 years will secure even greater things in the next 20 years. General Manager Neel Ratti comments:

“We have been amazed how fast the company has grown in the past 3 years, despite difficulties in the economy. Every single member of the team has been amazing. We’re so lucky to work with such professional and knowledgeable people. Everyone here is extremely excited about the future. They can clearly see evidence of the success of the company and I’m really pleased to say that they have all shared the rewards as well.

“I would like say thanks to everyone at Tuscor Lloyds and our loyal clients. We couldn’t have got here without you!”
