CZECH REPUBLIC – VIETNAM – Last year the air cargo infrastructure company Skyport, headquartered at the Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague, was acquired by air cargo investment firm Ventus and Sky Logistica, and now has handled the freight carried on board Bamboo Airways first charter flight of the year, operating from Hanoi International Airport in Vietnam to its home base.

Bamboo Airways was established five years ago, principally as a five star passenger service, and is now operating on almost 70 domestic and international routes, the largest scale in the Vietnamese aviation industry. The initial non-stop flight between Vietnam and the Czech Republic is the first of what Bamboo envisages will be a regular flight schedule between the two cities in the near future.

Skyport has been the contracted partner for Bamboo Airways at Prague Airport since 2019 when the pair signed a contract to co-operate on scheduled services, with only ad hoc charter services operated thus far. This inaugural flight of 2022 was undertaken by a Boeing 787-900 passenger aircraft which flew from Hanoi to Prague on the 18th of January, carrying approximately 15 tonnes of general cargo in the hold.

The aircraft was offloaded throughout the night by Skyport staff and reloaded with approximately seven tonnes of export cargo before departing the following day. Mr. Dang Tat Thang, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Bamboo Airways, commented:

“With the valuable support of Skyport, Bamboo Airways has had a very successful flight to PRG and we strongly believe that this flight will be a stepping stone for a fruitful partnership between Bamboo Airways and Skyport in the future.

“Bamboo Airways is the first Vietnamese carrier to launch a non-stop flight to Prague before (sic) the pandemic. We expect to rebuild the bridge connecting Vietnam and the Czech Republic through Bamboo Airways’ regular nonstop flights as soon as the conditions allow.”

Skyport operates a modern 8,300 m2semi-automated airside facility in Prague, with a 100,000-tonne cargo capacity enabling it to offer road haulage feeder services. The firm processes over half of all air cargo passing through the Prague airport, utilising one of the most modern airside facilities in Europe, and also operates in Slovakia at both Bratislava and Košice airports.
