US – XPO Logistics has announced the appointment of LaQuenta Jacobs to the newly created position of Chief Diversity Officer, effective since August 3. Jacobs will provide cultural leadership and strategic direction as an advocate of diversity, equity and inclusion at XPO. She will report directly to Bradley Jacobs, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

XPO also announced the appointments of Eduardo Pelleissone as Chief Transformation Officer and Alex Santoro as Executive Vice President, Operations, both effective since August 3.

Pelleissone joins XPO with 20 years of experience leading multinational operations in the food, logistics and transportation industries. He was most recently with Kraft Heinz Company and its predecessor H.J. Heinz for six years.

Santoro has two decades of executive experience with industry leaders, including Restaurant Brands International, Inc. (RBI), parent company of Burger King, Tim Hortons and Popeyes. Santoro served as chief supply chain and operations officer for RBI, and most recently was president of Popeyes.

US – Norfolk Southern has announced Cindy Sanborn as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, effective September 1. Sanborn will succeed Michael Wheeler, who will retire from the company effective October 1.

Sanborn joins Norfolk Southern from Union Pacific Corporation, where she most recently served as Vice President, Network Planning and formerly oversaw all activities in the northern region. Prior to Union Pacific, Sanborn served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at CSX. She held various leadership positions during her 30-year tenure at CSX,

US – Meritor has announced Hannah Lim-Johnson as Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, and Corporate Secretary, effective since August 3.

US – Crane Worldwide Logistics has announced the appointment of Brannon Kuykendall as Chief Information Officer. Prior to joining Crane Worldwide, he served as CIO in the oil and gas industry as well as Chief Technology Officer at ThoughtTrace, an artificial intelligence SaaS company. Kuykendall will be based at the company’s headquarters in Houston, Texas.

HONG KONG – UK – Noatum Logistics has appointed Ramon Gallen as the new Managing Director of Noatum Logistics in Asia, replacing Marco Gaeta who has been in the role for the last 8 years. Gallen joined Noatum Logistics in December 2014 as Deputy Managing Director, having worked in several areas after that. Based in Hong Kong, his new role will be focused on consolidating Noatum Logistics’s presence in Asia.

Daryl Ridgway has been named to take over Gallen's former role as Global Head of Sea Freight. Ridgway is a senior executive level professional with over 30 years of experience in logistics. His most recent role was as Global Head of Ocean freight for Panalpina and he has also held senior positions at Kuehne + Nagel.

UK – GB Railfreight has announced the appointment of Tim Hartley as Business Development Director. Hartley has extensive experience in the rail sector. Over the last 20 years he has advised on the appointments of many of the most senior leaders in the UK rail industry, including the CEOs of the Rail Delivery Group, the Office of Rail and Road, Crossrail, HS2, and a range of passenger train operating companies, rolling stock companies and manufacturers.

UK – Volvo Trucks UK and Ireland has appointed Hannah Burgess to the newly created position of Director of New Vehicle Sales, based at the company’s head office in Warwick. She will lead the company’s new truck sales and all related product and customer support activities. She will also be responsible for merging two existing departments, Commercial Truck and Product, Digital & Delivery, into one.

IRELAND – Geodis has appointed Gary O’Connor as its new Managing Director in Ireland.

BELGIUM – Tom Hautekiet has been named CEO at the Port of Zeebrugge, replacing Joachim Coens who in December 2019, was elected National President of the Flemish political party CD&V in order to lead the party for the next three years.

Coens left the role as the responsibilities that come with his new position were not reconcilable with his role as CEO at the port authority of Zeebrugge. Vice-President Rik Goetinck was then appointed CEO ad interim.

GERMANY – Newport Shipping has appointed Ingmar Loges as Managing Director, Germany.

ITALY – Matthieu Gasselin has been named as the new CEO of Sogemar Group, the Intermodal Arm of Contship Italia Group, effective September 1. Gasselin will succeed Sebastiano Grasso, who has been at the helm of Sogemar Group for the last 20 years.

NORWAY – StormGeo has announced the appointment of Kim Hedegaard Sørensen as the new Chief Operating Officer for StormGeo’s shipping division. Sørensen begins his new role immediately. Sørensen has previously held several senior level positions in the shipping and transportation industry including 17 years’ experience with the A.P. Møller Mærsk Group.

SWITZERLAND – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that Muhammad Albakri, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East (AME), will be appointed Senior Vice President for Customer, Financial and Digital Services (CFDS), based in Geneva and effective March 1, 2021. At that time Aleks Popovich, who currently holds the position, will retire.

Albakri joined IATA in January 2017 after more than a decade in the leadership team of Saudi Arabian Airlines where he successfully fulfilled the roles of Chief Financial Officer, Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President for Transformation. At IATA, Albakri has been an agent of change, transforming the Africa and Middle East regional team to better serve member needs and pioneering the work of IATA’s Digital Transformation Advisory Council.
