BRAZIL - Panalpina Brazil has been nominated by steel pipe manufacturer VSB as their logistics provider for all inbound cargo for their new plant which is under construction in Minas Gerais.

Beyond their freight management role, Panalpina will also be responsible for track & trace of all cargo and will also handle the national logistics with an in-site team.

Additionally, Panalpina has been nominated as preferred carrier to perform the ocean charters for their heavy sized freight cargoes.

VSB, a joint-venture between French Vallourec and Japanese Sumitomo Metals Industries, have started construction of the new industrial plant which, under the ‘VSB Vallourec & Sumitomo Tubos do Brasil’ brand, the group expects to make them one of the largest steel pipe producers in the world with an output of approximately 600,000 tons of pipes per year, mainly for the petroleum industry.

“Currently this project is one of three major and complex projects under way in Brazil with several suppliers in different countries. Therefore the partnership with a company with a global presence, experience in managing multiple operations and industries, special visibility and working on reducing costs for customers are vital factors in the choice of Panalpina that differed in these points,” said Luís Guilherme Paschoal Andrade, Project Coordinator – Logistics, at VSB.

“We expect the level of service is performed with significant financial gains for our operation,” he added.
