BRAZIL – Swiss based shipping group Panalpina received a fillip this week with the news that Cargill, international agricultural suppliers, were to extend the supply chain contract for 2010’s sugar crop. During last season, after a successful harvest Panalpina moved containers, approximately 5000 TEU, from Santos to numerous destinations mainly on the Indian subcontinent, the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

The expected harvest this season should mean around 1000 TEU moving across the world each month via Panalpina’s network of 500 freight offices in 80 countries. Cargill themselves give employment to 138,000 staff in 67 countries.

“The Cargill contract goes in line with the strategy to further expand our business within the commodity markets. The innovative solutions developed and designed together with Panalpina Ocean for the Cargill business shows that our unique and refreshing approach is very much welcomed in the market” comments Daniel Setz, Country Manager Panalpina Brazil.
