3PL Switch to Make Cost and Efficiency Savings

UK – Freight group Walker Logistics claims it has produced both cost and efficiency savings for a notable client after taking over the online and high street retail supply chain needs of Underground, a brand whose range of men’s and women’s footwear enjoys a cult following worldwide. Before partnering with Berkshire-based Walker, Underground had employed the services of two individual logistics firms, one with responsibility for its B2B operation and another to fulfil internet sales. The 3PL switch to Walker’s means that both channels to market are managed from the same facility, thus producing the consequent savings.

Under the terms of the contract some 1500 shoe styles and sizes will be held at Walker’s multi-user facility from where they will be picked, packed and dispatched to retail outlets, including Underground’s iconic store in the heart of London’s Soho and department stores such as Selfridges and Lane Crawford, and of course directly to those members of the public who prefer to order online via the company’s website.

As an added value service, Walker is undertaking quality control checks on every pair of shoes sold via Underground’s consumer website before they leave the fulfilment centre. William Walker, sales director of Walker Logistics, said:

“Underground is hugely successful and its footwear is worn by a host of fashion-conscious musicians, artists and other celebrities. We are delighted to have added another famous and popular brand to our growing portfolio of clients.”
