CALIFORNIA/USA – New Jersey-based NFI has acquired the Californian operations of The Gilbert Company, expanding it’s presence in the Riverside-San Bernardino region, the ‘Inland Empire’ area which is one of the most populace in the State.

This acquisition makes NFI one of the leading supply chain providers in the region and creates one of the largest independently managed distribution operations in North America.

Both companies specialise in third party logistics and warehousing offerings to retailers who have increasing needs to maintain strong shipping options with Asia via the West Coast ports.

This was spelled out by Joe Roeder, President of NFI Logistics and Distribution, who said that: “The acquisition enhances our capabilities in the apparel and footwear market and in our ability to bring an enhanced product offering to the retail sector.”

“We are excited to add Gilbert’s expertise in store delivery operations and their strong transportation services and distribution network in the West, which will enable us to better serve all of our customers.”

The acquisition will see NFI take over six facilities in the region, adding some 2.2 million square feet (205,000 m2) to their warehousing and handling capabilities in Southern California.

The deal means NFI has also taken over logistical responsibility for a number of high-profile customers such as J.Crew, Gap and Urban Outfitters.
