US – Alexandra Kleinschmidt has joined Crane Worldwide Logistics in Houston to lead the customs brokerage and trade advisory team. Kleinschmidt is a licensed customs broker, certified customs specialist and has an experienced background in leadership roles covering customs brokerage, compliance, ocean product and sales.

Throughout her career, she has lived in multiple continents and speaks four languages fluently bringing global experience to this leadership role. She is a graduate from Loyola and Tulane University.

GREECE – Diana Shipping Inc, a global shipping company specialising in the ownership of dry bulk vessels, has announced the appointment of Ms Semiramis Paliou to the office of Deputy Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

Ms Paliou has served as a director of the Company since 2015 and as Chief Operating Officer since 2018, and will continue to serve in these roles. It is expected that the Company’s current Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, Mr Simeon Palios, will remain fully engaged in his current role.

TAIWAN – WORLDWIDE – Effective from the start of October the Dimerco Express Group has restructured to set up an Executive Management Board (EMB), which will consist of five Executive Management members and will be led by Jeffrey Shih when Dimerco CEO Edward Lin retires this week. The EMB will be responsible for the management of Dimerco Express Group’s three newly restructured Business Divisions: Air Freight, Ocean Freight and Contract Logistics.

Representing the Air Freight Division, President of Dimerco Express Corporation, George Chiou will be responsible for China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and North East Asia, while President of GCR Ocean Freight, Johnny Kao will represent the Ocean Freight Division in the same region. In South East Asia, Australia, USA, Canada and Europe.

Jeffrey Shih, Chief Executive Management will be responsible for the Air Freight Division, while President of Dimerco Express (USA) Corp, Herbert Liou, will represent the Ocean Freight Division in that region. Wendy Chien, Managing Director, will represent the Contract Logistics Division across both geographies.

EUROPE – Not perhaps strictly an appointment but the European Car Group, which initiated the ECG Academy in 2006 in response to demand for specialist training for middle managers working in the finished vehicle logistics sector, this month saw the new recruits join the latest course. ECG, actually the Association of European Vehicle Logistics, offers the only formal qualification in vehicle logistics available anywhere in the world. ECG’s Education portfolio also includes two other training courses open to both members and non-members, the Negotiation Management course and also EU Compliance law training.

The current course takes place over 5 modules and 26 days with a combination of intensive practice oriented training and classroom work. These modules are held at different locations around Europe to give the participants insight into the practical realities of the different elements that make up vehicle logistics, as well as the regional variations across Europe.

UK – Two new recruits have joined international maritime charity Sailors’ Society at the Port of Southampton. South African born Kendrick Simon brings more than a decade of chaplaincy experience, having served as a school and police chaplain and more recently managing the music departments and worship teams for several UK churches.

The Society is headquartered in Southampton and newly appointed manager at the charity’s Seafarers’ Centre there is Simon Mobsby, working at a facility which last year alone saw more than 7,000 seafarers walk through its doors.

UK – Navigate Response, the global maritime crisis communication consultancy, announced today that Tom Adams has joined its expanding London team as a Crisis Response Manager. Tom joins Navigate Response from the security sector where he assisted clients in preparing for special risk incidents including active assailant, kidnap and piracy events.
