New Shipping Route Announced By Container Giant CMA CGM

REX 2 Service Deploys Vessel on Revised Rotation

FRANCE- ASIA- MIDDLE EAST - French container giant CMA CGM has announced a new service, named REX 2, which will be on the Asia - Red Sea route. It will be replacing the REX 1 service that was operating in a Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA) with APL and that ceased at the end of June. Shipping on the new service will begin on the 22nd July 2012, CMA CGM Far East – Red Sea network will be covered by the REX 2 and will be operated under a VSA between CMA CGM, Hanjin, CSCL and Yang Ming.

The new service is the first step of the box carrying company’s aim to expand its presence in Asia. Vice president of CMA CGM Asia MED and NAF lines said:

“It was essential for CMA CGM to offer again Egypt and Jordan calls with a direct and improved service from Asia. This new REX 2 service is the first step of CMA CGM’s redeployment in the zone and confirms the Group’s will to increase its presence in these countries for both import and export”.

CMA CGM will deploy one vessel, the Ville d’Aquarius of 3,900 TEU. The rotation is as follows:

Shanghai, Ningbo, Kaohsiung, Skekou (China), Singapore, Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Sokhna (Egypt), Aqaba (Jordan).
