LUXEMBOURG – WORLDWIDE – International freight forwarding group Panalpina are to commence their own additional controlled regular airfreight services connecting Luxembourg with destinations such as South Africa, Dubai and Hong Kong. The routing will also cover the transpacific route to Huntsville, Alabama in the USA, complementing Panalpina’s existing transatlantic airfreight service Dixie Jet.

Luxembourg, also home to Europe’s largest cargo only air fleet Cargolux, belies its size when considered as a European freight hub. The new Panalpina service will be operated by Atlas Air using a Boeing 747-400F aircraft which has been signed up on an ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, Insurance) lease agreement for a ‘multi-year’ period.

The traffic will mesh with Panalpina’s trans Atlantic all cargo airfreight service, launched with Dixie Jet in 1990, considered a pioneering step at the time offering a scheduled cargo service between Europe (Luxembourg) and North America (Huntsville) for the first time by a freight forwarder. It offers several weekly frequencies, serving the Southern, Central and South East of the USA via an exclusive Road Feeder service and additionally serves Mexico City, Guadalajara and London Stansted.
