IRELAND – GAC, the Dubai based shipping, logistics and marine service company, have announced a joint venture with the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) to provide innovative and cost saving training solutions for the LNG and tanker markets, as well as other commodity and maritime sectors. The initiative is to provide expert delivery of a portfolio of training courses for both seafarers and shore-based shipping personnel at the state-of-the-art $100 million training facility at NMCI in Cork, the client's location, e-learning provisions, or any combination thereof.

The NMCI is run jointly between Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) and the Irish Naval Service and their three year old training facility has the most sophisticated range of training aids and equipment including a 17 bridge simulator suite with 360 degree vision, a survival pool with helicopter underwater escape feature, wave and wind simulation plus workshops, laboratories and conference facilities. Trainees will have access to virtual experiences created through the use of Return to Scene (R2S) digital imagery captured inside LNG shore tanks, ships' tanks, the cargo manifold, CCR and other areas creating ‘walk through’ environments.

The courses are aimed at reducing the physical, environmental and financial risks synonymous with shipping and onshore terminal operations. For those engaged in shipping and commodity operations, GAC Training & Service Solutions Limited (GTSS ),will provide course modules that include INCO terms, Bills of Lading, charter party and contract demurrage. Target trainees include employees of ship owners, operators, managers, charterers and trading companies, oil, gas and chemical companies , terminal operators, industry bodies, trade finance banks, insurance companies and P&I Clubs, cargo inspection companies and ship brokers.

At the time of going to press no course dates are available but when details are finalised enquiries should be made via the NMCI website.
