US – This week Medline Industries Inc, which manufactures and distributes more than 100,000 products to hospitals and other healthcare related facilities, announced they had selected GT Nexus to provide the medical products company with an enhanced global logistics management platform. The group currently delivers products using various freight and shipping interests with domestic traffic moving via their own fleet of over two hundred trucks and vans plus sub contract haulage companies, operating from the company’s thirty two distribution centres.
Medline, the nation's largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of healthcare products, have chosen to adopt the GT Nexus cloud-based technology service, the platform will allow Medline to further automate and manage its multi-million dollar logistics spend with its global partners. Mike Collins, vice president of inbound transportation and logistics at Medline, illustrated the company’s reasoning behind the decision:
“With the growth of our global supply chain operation, the time had come to further enhance the way we run our logistics network. GT Nexus is the market leader in providing the spend management technology we need and all of our partners were already on the platform. We get all of the enhanced technology, in the cloud. The overall value proposition was very attractive to us.”
GT Nexus is a cloud supply chain platform that is shared by large enterprise customers from every business type. Companies manage their physical and financial supply chains on GT Nexus with solutions such as supply chain visibility, trade finance, business intelligence, freight contracting, and supplier enablement. The applications are fused with an integrated network of 3PLs, carriers, banks and suppliers who are actively working with other GT Nexus customers.
Medline will interact with its partner network to procure services and manage contracts for ocean freight transportation. As all of Medline’s carrier partners are already active on GT Nexus supporting other large shippers and using existing information and process standards it should allow Medline to synchronise their own logistics requirements seamlessly.
