CHINA - KONE is a name recognisable to most people, although many may not remember why, the name plate on the escalator or lift often doesn’t impress into the memory exactly where one spotted it but the fact is that the Finnish company has profited from the huge upsurge of construction in China and now freight forwarder DB Schenker has begun operations from its new 47,000 square metre distribution centre dedicated to servicing the elevator manufacturing group’s needs within the country.

Following over a year of construction and preparation this is the German logistic group’s biggest warehouse in China and one of the largest DB Schenker facilities in the Asia Pacific region. Based in Kunshan Jinxi Eco-Industrial Park the new hub consolidates all of KONE’s previous activities in the area, based as it is, close to the manufacturer’s production facilities, storing finished products ready to be distributed both throughout China and internationally.

The new complex was developed with investment from the Goodman Group, which was represented at the recent formal inauguration, and sits between Shanghai and Suzhou, two of the most economically developed regions in China and Karl-Heinz Emberger, Managing Director North/Central China for Schenker China Ltd takes the view that, with the opening of this facility, his company has taken an important step to becoming the leading supplier of logistics services in the region.
