New Boss at ICS Leads Shipping and Logistics Appointments This Week

WORLDWIDE – Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Grimaldi Group, long serving International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) Board member and immediate Vice Chair, was named as ICS Chair – Designate following a decision by the ICS Board of Directors at a recent meeting.

Grimaldi will follow Esben Poulsson as the next ICS Chair when he steps down from his current position in a year's time.

WORLDWIDE – The UK P&I Club has created a new role of Regional Claims Director in each of its main service hubs, enhancing global claim capability for Members. In response to the retirement of Jeff Lock, Global Technical Claims Director, the Club has reviewed its regional claims response, creating the Regional Claims Director role to better serve its markets in Europe, Greece, The Americas and the Far East.

Luke Lane and Tom Starr will serve as Regional Claims Directors in Europe, with Mark Beare, Seán Geraghty, and Tom Rittweger fulfilling the roles in Greece, Asia-Pacific and The Americas respectively.

As part of the restructure, the Club has also announced the promotion of Genevieve Holloway, who has been with the Club since 2007, to Senior Claims Director.

WORLDWIDE – The International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) has elected Captain Subramaniam Karuppiah, General Manager, Port Klang Port Authority, Malaysia, as the new IAPH President for a two-year term of 2021-2023.

Jay Santiago, General Manager, Philippine Ports Authority, Philippines, was elected to fill Karuppiah’s former role as Vice President for Asia, South East and Oceania region.

UK – EUROPE – IAG Cargo the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG) has announced the appointment of David Shepherd as Managing Director. Shepherd, who joins from Aer Lingus, re-joins IAG Cargo having previously held several leadership roles, including the positions of Commercial Director and Director of Digital Ventures.

Shepherd will be re-joining IAG Cargo on August 1 and will report into David Podolsky, who will continue in his role as Chief Executive of the business, having served in the interim role since April 2021.

UK – The UK Chamber of Shipping has named Sarah Treseder as its next Chief Executive, replacing Bob Sanguinetti. Treseder, who is currently Chief Executive of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), will bring a wealth of experience to the role and is due to take up her position in October 2021

UK – Effective since July 1, James Armstrong has succeeded Martin Hay as Managing Director of Scania (Great Britain). Prior to re-joining Scania (Great Britain), Armstrong was Managing Director of Scania CER (Central Europe Region). 

US – Volta Industries has announced David Klein, Ph.D., as Senior Vice President and Chief Data Scientist. Dr. Klein previously served as Chief Scientist at 2Predict. He will report to Praveen Mandal, Chief Technology Officer.

US – The Boeing Company Board of Directors has elected Lieutenant General Stayce Harris to the board. She will serve on the Aerospace Safety and Audit committees.

INDIA – The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has named Vijay Arora as its new Managing Director, effective since July 1, following the superannuation of Suresh Sinha on June 30.
