LUXEMBOURG – BRAZIL – Today sees the launch of the inaugural flight of another air freight service from cargo only carrier Cargolux. The initial flight will take place at 18:00 hours to São Paulo before continuing to arrive in Manaus at 05:20 tomorrow. Manaus is the capital of the federal state of Amazonas with almost 2 million citizens and is a free trade zone that has developed into one of Brazil’s major industrial centres for electronic and consumer goods with Eduardo Gomes International Airport as Brazil's third largest cargo airport in terms of freight movements.

The initial flight will continue on to Quito and Bogota before the return flight to Luxembourg via Maastricht. The route extends the airline’s reach in Brazil which Cargolux has served since 1997 and, as one of the BRICS nations, the country plays an important role in world trade as a major exporter of transport equipment, footwear, cars and iron ore. On the demand side, rapid economic growth has fuelled imports of machinery, chemical products, oil, electronics and automotive spare parts. Frank Reimen, Cargolux President and CEO, said:

“Brazil is an important market for Cargolux, it is the economic engine of the region. The presence of multinational companies has stimulated demand for fast and reliable air cargo transport, which is precisely what we offer our customers.”
