US – GERMANY – Following the recent ‘New American’ tie up between their parent group and US Airways, American Airlines Cargo has begun a nonstop freight service between Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Dusseldorf, Germany (DUS). Flying a Boeing 767-300, the new service will aim to provide customers with more shipping options and offers Expedite and Expedite TC (Temperature Controlled) services. Pharmaceutical products, medical instruments and automotive and aircraft parts are expected to be key commodities between the two countries. DUS Cargo Logistics has been appointed as the carrier’s handling agent in Dusseldorf. Egon Wedde, the carrier’s Regional Cargo Sales Manager said:

"The addition of this new flight is a great boost to our operations here. Chicago is an important hub in the airline's network, and it's a major selling point that we are now able to offer direct service to customers out of Germany."

The route is the earliest nonstop flight from Chicago, providing interline connections to the Middle East, as well as trucking to nearby Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Dusseldorf also offers connecting opportunities to Moscow, Munich and Vienna with oneworld and codeshare partner, airberlin. Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino commented:

"The ability to reach foreign markets with direct flights has a profound effect on our economy. It represents a great opportunity to grow business and tourism. In fact, the annual economic impact to the Chicago area from this new service is estimated at $125 million. This service will further enhance strong business connections between Germany and Chicago. Germany is a top investor in our city. There are about 200 Germany-based companies in the Chicago area at 500 locations."

The new Daily ORD-DUS Service Schedule is as follows:

Flight number: AA 242 Departs ORD at 3:35 p.m. Arrives at DUS at 7:00 a.m. the following day

Flight number: AA 241 Departs DUS at 9:45 a.m. Arrives at ORD at 12:05 p.m.

The new route means a further extension of AA Cargo services. Earlier this month, AA Cargo rolled out additional new and seasonal service to Europe and Latin America, including a new nonstop flight between Dallas/Fort Worth and Lima, Peru, and returning seasonal service between New York – JFK and Rome, Italy, Chicago O’Hare and Rome, Italy, and Chicago O’Hare and Dublin, Ireland. AA Cargo will launch its first-ever service to Seoul, South Korea, on May 9.
