UK – The VOX Centre overlooking the lake at Birmingham’s NEC was the scene for last night’s Multimodal 2016 Awards sponsored by the Freight Transport Association (FTA) and ably hosted by journalist and author and ex TV reporter John Sergeant, who gave a typically understated and witty speech to close the evening. A packed room responded well as he regaled the audience with tales of his times as a political reporter.

The main event of course were the Awards themselves and there was stiff competition in all the categories. The full list of winners are:

  • Rail Freight Operator of the Year Award Sponsored by Port of Felixstowe Winner: Freightliner
  • Air Cargo Operator of the Year Award Sponsored by Heathrow Airport Winner: IAG Cargo
  • Sea Freight Operator of the Year Award Sponsored by Freightliner Winner: Mitsui OSK Lines
  • Road Freight Operator of the Year Award Sponsored by Mandata Winner: Maritime Transport
  • Freight Forwarder of the Year Award Sponsored by Datafreight Winner: Agility
  • The FTA Contribution to Environmental Sustainability Award in Partnership with Multimodal Winner: Marks and Spencer
  • Low Carbon Reduction Scheme Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award Sponsored by Bridgestone Winner: Bibby Distribution
  • Young Logistics Professional of the Year Award Sponsored by Modal Training Winner: Joseph Peak Expeditors
  • Multimodal Exhibitor of the Year Winner: Peel Ports
  • Multimodal Personality of the Year Sponsored by Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Freight Winner: MSC UK Managing Director Dan Everitt

This last Award was particularly popular, won as it was by a man who has stayed with the same company for his entire career, working his way through ‘the ranks’ and was described in the presentation as ‘a thoroughly nice bloke’.
