DENMARK – DSV, a freight group originally created from the unification of 10 of the country's road haulage operators, has announced an expansion to its Hedehusene headquarters which sits around 30 kilometres west of Copenhagen. Hedehusene serves as the global HQ for DSV and will shortly see ground broken on the group's 10,000 m2 extension to the current premises.

Work will commence this month following completion of the underground 20,000 m2 parking facility constructed throughout 2018. This however is just the start of an enlargement project which sees DSV adding a new 250,000 m2 logistics complex in the Roskilde-Hedehusene-Taastrup area, and close to 2,000 DSV employees working in the greater Copenhagen area.

Further expansion was made possible after DSV purchased a defunct gravel pit which sits in a 280,000 m2 plot situated adjacent to the DSV HQ. By the second half of 2019, DSV will begin levelling out the pit to construct an additional 150,000 m2 of prime logistics facilities.

The building project will have several phases corresponding to the four projected logistics buildings and allow for around 1,200 additional staff to be employed. The first expansion to the existing global HQ will make room for 400 new employees to match the growth within existing Danish operations and global HQ support functions, whilst the second expansion will ultimately see around 800 new employees welcomed into to the DSV workforce.

The cost of the combined projects equates to a total of DKK 1 billion and Brian Winter Almind, Executive Vice President, Group Property, commented:

“When we build to accommodate our clients’ growth, we have to think big, and we have to plan for more than the immediate future. So, when the opportunity to buy more land right next to our existing HQ presented itself, we jumped at it. We’re very excited at the prospect of creating a giant logistics complex centred round the HQ location. It’ll be DSV’s largest logistics complex anywhere in the world”.
