CHINA – Earlier this month, Zhuhai International Container Terminals Gaolan (ZICTG), the only natural deep-water port in the western Pearl River Delta capable of handling mega-vessels, welcomed the maiden call from MV Eagle Star operating on Gold Star Line’s Haiphong Shuttle Express (HSX) service. ZICTG is a joint venture between Hutchison Delta Ports (HDP) and the Zhuhai Port Holdings Group and the arrival of the box ship signals an increase in foreign freight trade services calling at the port. Ronald Wan, General Manager of ZICTG, commenting on the route expansion said:

“Gold Star Line’s HSX service provides direct weekly connections from ZICTG to Haiphong, giving shippers in the western Pearl River Delta a cost competitive option for their export cargo to Vietnam.”

With the addition of the extra call the HSX service has a port rotation of Haiphong-Fangcheng-Gaolan-Dachan-Hong Kong and the new destination is situated on the Nanshui River, southwest of Zhuhai City, China. The port has been in operation since 1994 and has excellent transport links to areas along the Xijiang River and the Beibu Gulf of Guangxi whilst the terminal serves the western Pearl River Delta hinterlands through intermodal transportation networks. Part of the Hutchison Port Holdings network equipment includes Super Post-Panamax quay cranes and environmentally-friendly electric rubber-tyre gantry cranes controlled by a modern terminal management system.
