US – NETHERLANDS – UK – Gefco is a name associated in the world of freight and logistics with the shipment and distribution of automotive vehicles and components. Now the French headquartered group have announced an association with Erik Buell Racing (EBR), a US sports motorcycle company with an intriguing history of its own.

Erik Buell is known as a pathfinder in the US motorcycle world, he worked for Harley-Davidson until 1983 whilst also racing and creating his own bikes. Eventually Harley-Davidson bought the Buell brand and subsequently closed the company. Buell persisted to form EBR with a partner in 2009 which now produces an exciting range of sports bikes. Last year Indian group the Hero MotoCorp took a 49.2% share in the company and distribution across the US of both sports bikes and scooters was commenced.

Now EBR will make use of the Gefco network from the UK hub depot in Baginton, Coventry with distribution to dealers in the UK, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands after Gefco has transported crated motorcycles from EBR’s European Distribution Centre in the Netherlands into the United Kingdom. Roy Fenner, Gefco’s Senior Key Account Manager said:

“We are delighted to be working with Erik Buell Racing; we hope it is a relationship that will grow and expand as the company does. It is testament to our well established expertise in the two wheeler market that we are able to work with companies such as EBR and can further expand our 2Wheeler logistics service to new, rapidly growing businesses.”

Gefco says its expertise in the transportation of two wheeler vehicles and in-house track and trace systems will afford EBR full visibility and enable them to manage transportation in line with demand, while creating significant cost efficiencies for the company. Steve Loxton, Sales Director Europe North, Erik Buell Racing, commented:

“We approached Gefco because of its well-established reputation in the handling, collection and distribution of two wheeler vehicles. Combined with its flexibility and commitment to customers, this provides us with the confidence that our business needs are at the forefront of the solution. We believe this relationship will be key to extending and advancing our European offering as we grow and expand in the region.”
