UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – Dubai headquartered Swift Freight boss Warren Erfmann claims he has increased monthly turnover since taking over the company in March. Swift was formed in 1989 by Issa Baluch, well known for venturing into the African cargo market at a time when others feared to tread and believed to be still serving on the group’s advisory board. Erfmann has continued trading in that continent but says other areas have contributed to his success.
Erfmann, the former CEO of Barloworld Logistics Middle East & Asia, commented:
"Although our focus has always been Africa, our operations in India and China have also grown substantially and make significant contributions to the overall performance of the group. I am extremely proud to state that Swift has increased its monthly turnover by 42 per cent and the GP by 53 per cent in this period. In addition, we have had to increase our staff compliment by close to 10 per cent, in order to handle the increased volumes for both ocean and airfreight.”
In March Erfmann, who had worked in Dubai for some years and knew the operation intimately, acquired 100% of Swift’s global operations from Barloworld, except for the Dubai office, where he acquired approximately 70% of the freight forwarding division which deals with Africa. Swift Freight International LLC ceased to exist and Erfmann continued to operate the company’s thirty five global premises taking on the existing staff.
