UK – Felixstowe based multimodal logistics firm, Maritime Transport has opened the first transport depot at DP World’s London Gateway port purely dedicated to container road haulage. Situated on London’s doorstep and boasting six deep-water berths, London Gateway’s capability to deal with the world’s largest container vessels means that it is undoubtedly developing into a major player in the UK container industry, and as such Maritime Transport said that the decision to open a facility there was an easy one to make, with Maritime Transport's Managing Director – Container Transport, Simon Smart commenting:

“The decision to open at DP World London Gateway complements our network growth plans. The developments at London Gateway continue to impress and have added another UK port option for our customers. Naturally, as a multi-port operator we wanted to have a substantial presence at the dock which we have achieved with this centre, the first of its kind.”

Other companies with an element of box haulage in their service portfolio, such as Pentalver, already operate from the port, Maritime however is the first to deal only with supplying trucks for container transport. The Maritime Transport depot consists of a three-acre site with the ability to house 60 trucks and trailers and Tom Williams, General Manager, Commercial, at Maritime Transport, commented:

“We believe that the port will quickly become established as a key gateway for our customers with its fantastic location close to the City of London and surrounding areas. With our operations teams and vehicles based on site, we are the first logistics operator to offer a true solution from London Gateway.”
