CAMBODIA – Maersk logistics subsidiary Damco has continued its rapid development of freight facilities in South East Asia with its second major warehouse facility opening recently in Cambodia. Following the launch of Damco’s CFS Warehouse 1 which started operation in August 2011 the inauguration of CFS Warehouse 2 this week indicates the speed of growth of forwarding requirements in the region with the country lately becoming known as a very popular manufacturing hub in Indo China as in recent years more manufacturers have been setting up there, particularly in the garment sector.

Strategically located along National Road 4 and within a kilometre of major manufacturers in Phum Chompou worn, Sangkat Choom Chao Phnom Penh, the two Damco facilities offer a total combined space of over 16,000 square metres with over 40 loading bays and an advanced CCTV system and the company claims it is setting new standards for logistics services in the Kingdom. The new warehouse will not only provide customers with access to key services such as inventory management, order processing, RF scanning, bar coding, vendor & carrier management but also value added services such as cross border and inland trucking. Mr. Andy Lim, Country Manager of Damco Cambodia commented:

“There are often many challenges doing business in emerging markets: infrastructure bottlenecks on the quayside, along road or rail networks or local procedures and practices. Here in Cambodia, the strong support from the government and local authorities gives us the confidence that this market will continue to develop positively and will be one of the most competitive markets in the region, for many years to come. And Damco is geared to overcome such challenges together with our customers in emerging markets.

“There is a need to set a higher standard in providing world class logistics and freight forwarding services to all these investors, which is the reason why Damco will continue to invest not only in infrastructure but also in developing the skills of their staff to set the benchmark as a market leader in this emerging market.”
