UK – GERMANY – AUSTRIA – EUROPE – Having announced last month that it is to take over the German wood product specialist Brenner on 1 January 2015, subject to antitrust authority approval, the Rhenus Group’s UK operation has reached agreements with two new logistics partners to extend its European road haulage and freight forwarding offerings across the continent.

The Brenner deal means the German group’s specialist vehicle fleet for handling waste, industrial and recycling wood and biomass will complement Rhenus’ existing range of services in the wood logistics sector after the takeover. Now Rhenus Logistics UK has signed agreements with Austrian based Transdanubia, a major player in the country and Balkan operator, Milsped, which delivers customised logistics and value-added services across the Balkan region.

The Serbian-based business currently operates regular freight forwarding services from its hub in Belgrade to over 80 locations in Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania, handling more than 32,000 shipments per year. For its part Transdanubia has an even more impressive portfolio with a stated half a million consignments a year, including the transport of hazardous goods and automotive parts throughout central Europe.

Rhenus and Transdanubia currently operate three scheduled trailer departures each week, encompassing a full reverse logistics solution from the UK to Austria with the UK arm of Rhenus utilising its eleven British and Irish facilities. Gary Dodsworth, Director at Rhenus, said:

“We’re delighted to add to our growing blue chip and market-leading client base with Transdanubia. We’re pleased to be working with an organisation that shares our values and vision for the future of European logistics and look forward to increasing our market share in Europe. Transdanubia is a first-rate partner when it comes to difficult or unusual transport solutions.

“We’re [also] incredibly excited to add an organisation as highly regarded as Milsped to our blue chip and market-leading partner base. Milsped operates in a part of Europe that is rich with potential and it offers us the network, expertise and committed approach that we view as essential. Along with Rhenus UK, Rhenus operations in Germany and Spain are also launching partnerships with Milsped: testament to our belief that strength in unity will help to develop the fast growing logistics sector in Europe.”
