UK - Nominations are now open for Women in Logistics UK’s new Awards Scheme, the Jean Haslam Awards, with 2 categories: Woman of the Year and Company of the Year which respectively are for logisticians who challenge pre-conceptions and are outstanding role models in what is still a male-centric industry, and for organisations demonstrating commitment & innovation in attracting, developing & retaining women. An added bonus will be that road haulage charity Transaid, which does so much work improving the safety of road freight and other transport, will benefit directly from the awards.

" Women in Logistics UK now has almost 3,000 fabulous members - 18% of which are men - and we felt it was time we formally acknowledged some of the remarkable achievements of women in our sector," says Ruth Waring, chair and founder of the networking group. "We also wanted to commend companies who create and demand gender equality."

The awards will be presented at WiL UK’s Summer Ball which is being held at the Chesford Grange Hotel near Warwick on Friday 6th July 2012 to support Transaid, the road safety charity which was founded by Save the Children and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, with the intention of reducing poverty in Africa by improving transport facilities and training there. The day will also see an event at Macfarlane Packaging in Coventry which will examine future trends in the logistics and supply chain. Professor Richard Wilding from Cranfield University will be their keynote speaker while Ben Lyons from Michael Page will be advising the delegates on the future recruitment trends in the industry.

The combined events will, as is usual with WiL, provide excellent networking opportunities and help raise money to bring essential transport skills to people in the developing world. Both the individual and corporate awards nominations close on Monday the 28th May and can be made HERE whilst full details of the Women in Logistics Summer Ball can be seen HERE and applications for individual tickets can be booked via the website and tables of ten via Ruth Waring at
