LUXEMBOURG – We kick off this week’s appointments and staff changes in the supply chain and logistics industry with a series of senior management changes at Cargolux. After months of speculation the air freight carrier has pronounced Dirk Reich to be its new President and CEO, effective immediately after the company’s Chief Financial Officer Richard Forson took over the position at Europe's largest cargo only airline on an interim basis in August 2012. Forson will now continue to serve as Senior Vice President and CFO.
Reich, previously a Member of the Management Board and Executive Vice President at Kuehne & Nagel, will also assume the responsibilities of Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing on an interim basis until a suitable successor is found. The previous SVP of Sales & Marketing Peter van de Pas resigned in January.
Robert Song joins Cargolux as Senior Vice President Asia & Pacific and Member of the Executive Committee. Song previously worked for Chinese aviation investor Henan Civil Aviation Development & Investment (HNCA), which now has a 35% stake in Cargolux, a deal which was orchestrated by Song.
Cargolux also announced the promotions of Marcel Funk to Senior Vice President, Head of Flight Operations, and of Onno Pietersma to Senior Vice President Maintenance & Engineering, both also to be Members of the Executive Committee.
GERMANY – Lufthansa has elected Karl Ulrich Garnadt, CEO and Chairman of Lufthansa Cargo, to the Group’s Executive Board. He will succeed Carsten Spohr, who will become Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa Group on May 1. Replacing Garnadt as the head of the cargo division is Peter Gerber, currently responsible for Human Resources, IT and Services on the Executive Board of Lufthansa. He is scheduled to take up his new position on May 1.
Dr Bettina Volkens, who has been responsible for Corporate Human Resources and Legal Affairs as Director of Industrial Relations and member of the Executive Board of Lufthansa since 1 July 2013 will also become a board member and Chief Human Resources Officer at Lufthansa German Airlines as of May 1.
NETHERLANDS – Effective March 31, Jan Lagasse will become Zeeland Seaports’ interim CEO, replacing Hans van der Hart.
UK – DBL Logistics Managing Director David Clarkson has been appointed as a non-Executive Director of United Pallet Network (UPN).
EUROPE – SIRVA Worldwide has hired Maggie Ryan as its President of Europe. In this capacity, Maggie will oversee SIRVA's relocation and moving businesses in the European region.
FINLAND – Ryan Flynn is returning to Konecranes, this time as Executive Vice President and Head of Business Area Equipment, effective June 1. Flynn will be a member of the Konecranes Group Executive Board and will report to Pekka Lundmark, President and CEO. Flynn worked his way up the company, becoming Senior Vice President and Regional Head of the Asia Pacific market before leaving the company in 2013. Flynn succeeds Hannu Rusanen who is leaving the company to pursue other interests.
RUSSIA – LUXEMBOURG – The Volga-Dnepr Group has made a series of changes to its some of senior staff at subsidiary company AirBridgeCargo (ABC), with current Senior Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing Wolfgang Meier, promoted to the position of Group Vice President for Marketing and Development, effective May 1.
The position of Senior Vice President Marketing and Sales (Luxembourg AFL office) will be taken by Robert Van de Weg, who will join the company on May 1, and the position of the Senior Vice President Scheduled Operations will be taken by Peter van de Pas (Luxembourg AFL office), commencing on April 1.
SOUTH KOREA – Hanjin Transportation has appointed Seo Yong Won as co-CEO of the company, replacing Sukh Tae Su.
SINGAPORE – Glander International Bunkering has announced that Rosalind Liu Qi and Euwyn Tan have joined its Singapore team.
UAE – Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has announced the appointment of Adel Al Wahedi as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
KENYA – Emirates has appointed Anita Kongson the new Country Manager for Kenya.
THE AMERICAS – Maersk SeaLand has announced a series of appointments that will make up its Executive team. Current Commerical Manager of the Central American region at Maersk Line Alfredo Di Palma will join SeaLand as Chief Commercial Officer. Maria Batista will take up the position of Head of Customer Service; Shane Sawyer, CFO; Thiago Covre, Chief Liner Officer; and Timothy Child, COO.
US – Union Pacific (UP) has elected David Dillon, Chairman of the Kroger Company, to the Board of Directors, effective immediately. The Board also voted to elect the company's Chief Executive officer Jack Koraleski, Chairman of the Board. Koraleski succeeds the late Jim Young who served as UP Chairman until his death last month. Unless you have a special interest in UP it might be time to skip to the next entry as a litany of changes are occurring within the group.
There are to be several changes in the Marketing and Sales, Operating and Finance departments. In Marketing and Sales, Jason Hess now leads the Agricultural Products team as VP and General Manager, succeeding Paul Hammes who retired after 10 years with UP. Current VP of Intermodal Operations Kate Betsworth succeeds Hess as VP of the National Customer Service Centre. Kari Kirchhoefer now leads UP subsidiary Streamline as President, succeeding Tom Brown who has now retired.
Kenny Rocker is now assistant VP of Chemicals, succeeding Jon Panzer who was appointed VP of Planning and Analysis. Michelle Gerhardt succeeds Rocker as Assistant VP of Industrial Products Marketing. Prior to this appointment, she was Assistant VP of Investor Relations. Former Senior Director of Customer Communications and Resource Planning Mike Parker, is now General Manager of UP Distribution Services.
Over to the Operating department where Ed Weber has been appointed VP of the Network Planning and Operations team, succeeding Cameron Scott who recently was named Executive VP of Operations. Weber was previously the VP of the Finance Department's Planning and Analysis team. Former Assistant Vice President of Intermodal Marketing Paul Borseth succeeds Betsworth as VP of Intermodal Operations. Previous General Manager of UP Distribution Services David Giandinoto, is now Assistant VP of Operations for the Northern Region.
Former Director of Transportation Services for the Roseville Service Unit, James Rawlinson, is now General Superintendent of Transportation Services for the Roseville Service Unit, succeeding Jack Huddleston who now becomes General Superintendent of Transportation Services for the Houston Service Unit, succeeding Tom Lischer who now becomes Assistant VP of Locomotive Distribution and Network Operations at the Harriman Dispatching Centre. Lischer succeeds Brian McGavock who now becomes Assistant VP of Operations for the Southern Region, succeeding Greg Garrison who is now Regional VP of Transportation for the Northern Region, succeeding David Connell who takes up the position of VP of Engineering alongside Joe Santamaria.
Finally on to the Finance department where Jon Panzer is now Vice President of Planning and Analysis, taking over from Ed Weber, Mike Staffenbeal is now Assistant VP of Investor Relations, succeeding Michelle Gerhardt, and Jim Lusk is now Assistant VP of Insurance, succeeding Warren Beach who is retiring.
US – American Fast Freight has strengthened its core management team by promoting Sharon Pagan to the position of Vice President of National Accounts. Pagan was the Sales Director of the Eastern and Midwest regions and has been with the company for 11 years.
US – UTi Worldwide has promoted Chris Osborne to a new Global Director position to focus on growth in Projects, Mining and Energy (PME). Osborne will take on the additional role of managing the Global Ocean Desk to align carrier relationships. He will be relocating to Houston, Texas.
US – Inchcape Shipping Services has appointed Matt Lee as General Manager of Seattle and Alaska.
US – Echo Global Logistics has announced the appointment of Cheryl Johnson to the post of Senior Vice President of Talent.
US – Ryder System has appointed John Diez as Senior Vice President of Ryder Dedicated. He reports to President of Global Supply Chain Solutions, John Williford
US – Former President of Con-way Truckload, Herb Schmidt has been appointed to the Board of Directors at Post.Bid.Ship.
CANADA – The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Board of Directors has elected Eugene Kwan as Vice Chair for a two year term, effective immediately. Kwan was originally appointed to the Board of Directors in 2010 by the Minister of Transport and was re-appointed in October 2013 for a second three year term. Kwan is also the Chair of the Major Capital Projects Committee and a Member of the Governance Committee.
