UK – US – INDIA – Two separate deals this week saw the acquisition of a British freight forwarding and road haulage group by another national rival, whilst across the Atlantic, an Indian logistics firm has taken over the third largest LCL consolidator in the US via its own subsidiary NVOCC operation.

In the UK, logistics provider Delamode has acquired Dover-based freight forwarder John Shirley in another phase of ongoing expansion plans. John Shirley has specialised in road transport to North East Italy and Eastern Europe especially the Balkan regions whilst Delamode has a presence in nine countries in the region with plans to open offices in four more. Mark Wraight, Deputy Managing Director of Delamode Plc welcomed the boss of the Kent firm to the group saying:

“It is with great pleasure we welcome John Shirley, the founder and MD of John Shirley Limited, to the Delamode Group. John brings with him a wealth of experience and will be heavily involved in developing our existing customer base and assisting the local management in the opening and development of new offices in the West Balkan region. John also speaks many languages, including Serb-Croat, French, and Spanish and is learning Albanian, which will be of significant benefit to the company.”

The Indian outfit Allcargo Logistics, part of the Avvashya Group, has acquired a 100% interest in Econocaribe Consolidators via its own subsidiary Ecu Line. Econocaribe, incorporated in 1968, claims to be today the third largest LCL consolidator (NVOCC) in the US. With its headquarters in Miami, Florida, Econocaribe has 9 offices in the US and 22 receiving terminals throughout the US and Canada, as well as partners across the world.

Ecu Line has, in recent years, been working in the US, engaging Econocaribe as its agent, whilst the consolidator itself specialises in LCL and FCL services to Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Africa and Asia and offers import transportation services from around the world into the United States and Puerto Rico.

This acquisition now enables Ecu Line to complete its service offerings, both in terms of global capabilities and coverage and gives it a more prominent position in the US market. Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty, Executive Chairman Allcargo Logistics Limited, India and ECU Hold NV, Belgium, commented:

“Econocaribe has been our partner in the US and we have worked very closely with them. They have an extremely efficient and capable management team that has taken the company to being amongst the top NVOCCs in the US. I am very happy that now they are a part of our family and we have now become truly a global MNC, which is a dream achieved.”
